i used to the the same thing! some times, after a big storm passed there would be so much static electricity in the air, when you took a cast, your lure would land in the water but if you kept letting line out, the line would just keep going up and up and up making as big of an arc as you wanted to. craziest thing! take about 10-15 reel cranks and get zapped once you touched the graphite rod just like a carpet shock.
