I was thinking a big creature bait too. The place I fish they spawn in the old lilly pad fields before the pads ever come up. My favorite thing to throw is a Zoom Horny Toad (watermelon crawfish) on a 5/0 light worm hook with a couple split shots (6 inches or so above) just enough to sink it. That way it will hoover on a pause. I cast it as far back into the shallow water as I can then just slowly crank it back. They will absolutely hammer it.

That color is not only a good frog color but also a good imitation for bream. I believe the bulk and kick of the legs could be mistaken for both.
