Maybe I've had bad luck, but when I go to Old Hickory if I try to leave a cove I feel like the bass boats are mad that I attempted.
Last saturday I fished the little cove on the old hickory side of the dam. As soon as I left the cove to fish the fallen timber outside of it, some moron in a bassboat came blowing by full throttle not 20 feet away from me. I know they seen me cause they were waving at laughing at their shenanigans. Then they set the boat down on a dime which made a huge wave. I guess to not disturb the no wake zone. Too late by that time. I managed to stay upright, but not wanting to risk another I moved back to the cove. I caught three decent bass in there so it wasn't so bad.
Earlier this summer I had a similar incident on the other side of the lake.

This is my first year fishing out of a kayak so maybe I'm being over cautious.
Poorman and Tennessee Jugger are both correct.

As far as fishing out there I highly recommed a partner, and someone who is familiar with the area. I know you are not floating but let someone know where you are and have a float plan made out. I recommend you know how to re-enter your kayak in cold water/self rescue. Bring extra clothing a complete change of dry clothes, know your surroundings. Bring high energy food food, plenty of water, and several pair of gloves. Fishing in the winter in a small craft can be very dangerous, I don't advise anyone to do it, and I definately wouldn't take anyone not experienced out in the elements in those conditions.
Please be very careful on the water in any conditions. They never write happy stories in the paper or have them on the news, and I don't want to see anything bad happen to anyone. It kinda discredits me, and people will look down upon me when I'm out there when people hear these stories, but if I can warn people and hopefully I can post up some nice fish and great reports this winter to show that you can fish from a kayak in the winter if you are properly preparred.

Please be safe, and ALWAYS WEAR YOUR PFD

Jeremy
