I don't actively target Sauger. But at my Crappie hole they will usually move into the entrance to it around January or February, and for those that fish for them I have seen them sometimes limit out in about 30 cast. It is very simple for those that I fish around. They just bump a jig along the bottom....but Sauger are quick. Meaning you have to set the hook quickly or they are gone when they feel you. The waters below Pickwick Dam are a great fisheries. It is just a great place to fish from the bank. A long drive though. But people who live in other states will try to plan a week during the Sauger run just to come down there to fish for them.
