Lake Normandy Walleye fishing with Merv today!
 

Today Merv and I tested the waters for Walleye but got short handed with 2 keeper bass, 2 Catfish, 2 Bluegill and Nil Walleye.
All and all it was a slow day but we found some good potential spots, and in addition some knowledge from the locals for next time.

That stinks I was going to try that tomorrow. What tactics did you try? I know if Merv can't catch them I sure don't feel confident.

thats a bummer! im gonna head that way in a week or so with my basket of Yankee Tactics and walleye know-how to put some 'eyes in the boat!

From what I gather, talking to some locals who fish there two or three times a week, it's a hit or miss proposition.

Some days they wear the walleyes out and some days it's the fishermen getting worn out.

Mostly we tried trolling nightcrawler harnesses at speeds ranging from .7-1.5 mph. No wallys.

We also pulled 3 inch sliders on 3/8 oz jigheads and an occasional crankbait.

Ive heard the same thing. The positive to that though is its a fairly small lake.
The most important thing ive from years of walleye fishing, even walleye factories like Erie, is those fish can change thier color preferences almost hourly. A great search tactic that i use alot, is i will stack my spinner rigs on the main line, similar to a crappie spreader. That way if im running 3 rods, i can in theory run 6 different color schemes. The trick to that is the top spinner rig must be a floater.
Just another tid bit for ya....i never go walleye fishing without a black sharpie marker and neon orange nail polish. Walleyes see the color orange the best in all water clarities. With those 2 things, you can change the colors or your blades in seconds.
Im a wealth of walleye knowledge if ya ever have any questions or want some input on anything.

Try floating worm harnesses. They may not be on the bottom right now. Sometimes they are a foot or two off the bottom.

Not sure if anyone sells leeches. But up in South Dakota we used a lot of leeches during the summer for walleye?

I have tried Normandy for the eyes about 6 or 7 times in the last month and a half and gotten zero mostly at night trolling all afore mentioned tackle and tactics, finally gave up, it seems like im just not meant to catch a walleye, maybe one day if I go with fishfindergeneral but I doubt it will be anytime soon, I recon i need to go back to fishing creeks and small waters for gills to feel a tug at the end of my line

I hear you that's what I was thinking that day we went, ill have to at least try a few more strategies before throwing the towl in.

I've made up a bunch of floating spinner rigs to try on the walleyes on Normandy. Just got to get up the gumption to go after'em again.

So, do I do days, nights? Morning, evenings?

yes!!

Merv, from what ive heard, morning tru mid day has been best, and they say they are fairly shallow 12 to 18 ft on pea gravel main lake points, good luck!!
