Below Center Hill Question
 

I want to learn how to catch walleye. Can it be done below Center Hill dam near the spillway with one generator? I don't have a boat but am pretty ambitious and in good shape. I can climb up and down the riprap. I've caught hundreds and hundreds of small trout and have bass fished JPP for years. I want to try something new. Thank you for any tips and help!!

You definitely can. There are some who are more experienced Walleye anglers than me who can give some more detailed info but there are definitely Walleye in that river. Suspending jerkbaits are great lures to use for them. Smithwick Rattlin Rogue and Rapala Husky Jerks are two great ones. Jigging spoons from the steps through the current is another way I've seen them caught. Those methods also work great for catching large trout in the current, especially the jigging spoons. I've had a lot of fun with Kastmaster spoons down there.

As you may know, Walleye are much more active in the dark than in the day time but hey, one time I caught one near Betty's Island around noontime in the middle of August on a trout magnet so you never know. A keeper too at 18", made a nice meal!

Can it be done? Yes. Consistently from the bank? No... Cordell Hull would probably be a better choice and there to it is seasonal at best.

When generating 1 generator, cast suspending jerkbaits from the riprap, look for strikes right at the riprap. I have had trips where I have left with 3-4 18-20" eyes. Also several where I just catch 1, and several I don't catch any.
