Old Hickory Cat.... I mean Key Fishing
 

Launched at Flippers yesterday early afternoon, dropped my truck keys in the water about 5 feet deep. Took a swim searching for them wearing some pink Barbie goggles that barely fit over my eye-balls. Gave up, called my wife who brought me a spare (about 35 minutes 1 way) with our 4 year old and 2 year old in the car missing their naps.

Netted some shad around the steam-plant barrier and used cut shad and shad gut over at the skimmer wall to catch some cats and a big ole drum.

Still can't believe I lost my keys. Worst part is the key ring has my Dad's dog tag from when he was in the air-force on it. He gave that to me when I was 12 years old. I know exactly where they are too but there is ZERO visibility and it's very muddy and silty. If anybody reels in a keychain with the last name "Krawitz" on a dog-tag, please shoot me a PM. I'll buy your dinner!

Tie a good size magnet on and go key fishing... I had to do the same thing at 7points. Thankfully I always keep a spare key in my tackle box.

That sucks JK. I dropped one of my handguns in dale hollow a few years ago while unloaded the boat.... it was in about 4' of water in February. It was a cold retrieval. Maybe You can get out there like fish said and find it.

An old speaker magnet has retrieved many a slung off buzz bait for me, I'm bad for over using my line and trying to stay back off the cover I try and sling them a mile... Decent old speaker magnet has the diameter to cover enough area to usually get the job done. If you can't get one give me a holler, it's not uncommon for me to fish down that way I'll see if I can help you out.

I am willing to meet you there and try to help since the dog tags are on it.

You guys are awesome offering to meet me there. I'll be in Jackson the next two days for work but if you're serious I might go Thursday late afternoon. I'm gonna see if my dad has any additional dog tags first. If he does then I won't worry about it but if he doesn't ill go look again with some tree real goggles and a big magnet perhaps.

Sorry . . . magnet won't do it; you'll need an electro magnet IF the ring is carbon steel. :mad:

HOWEVER! You can still find them with the help of a metal detector. You might need to modify the pole a bit, but you can get the 'ducer down next to the bottom and "feel" from there.

Stick with it; they're there. You can retrieve them.

It worked for me. I don't remember what kind of key chain I had at the time. Good luck.

in case you're interested, they are somehwere in this box area.... My depth finder read about 5 feet deep.

If I get out of work in time enough I'm planning on riding over that way, if not definetly Friday or Saturday if not both, we usually go drink "cola" at the island on Saturdays anyway, I use it as an excuse to go fishing because the wife knows I'll already be there to pick her up in the afternoon... Hopefully your key ring is like mine, I grabbed a magnet from here at work and it sucked up the rings like a vacuum...

How deep you reckon that area is, Maybe I can get a few teens (niece and nephews and their friends are in Mt. Juliet) to compete in a little contest. ;)

Or we could try using rakes!?

I don't live to far from area I'd let u get out there with it I don't swim well
