Cumberland River (Clarksville area) 5/29/14
 

Met my friend at the ramp at 5:30 this morning (should have said 5) and I was really, really, really, really hoping that we would have weather like we've had the last 2 days; overcast and no wind. Well, we got the no wind all right, but what clouds there were cleared out by 8 and it got hot fast.

I got to witness a decent sunrise while waiting for my friend to show up and we caught a few decent bass so life is good :). Water temps were right around 74 and the water was pretty clear today...caught all my fish on a 4" black Senko (never saw that coming, did you :D) and my buddy caught his on a white finesse worm and a shad-colored Senko knockoff, and one on a spinnerbait.

We caught all our fish very close to rip rap or rocks/rock bluffs, basically anywhere there was shade. We both tried topwater lures early on with no luck. What made it a really good day was that due to it being a weekday, there were only a few other boats on the water today.

Thanks for the report. I haven't been able to find much in Nashville other than little spotted bass as of late. I'd like to see more current.

Good job there. Those are all quality chunky fish. I see the red on the tail of the #4 picture. Did that seem like a sore to you or did it look like it was from bed fanning? I'm curious because I have yet to see any bloody tails in any pics so far this year as well as none on the fish I've been catching. It seems like it's a little delayed for the bass. Anyway, thanks for the report and pictures.

In this neck of the woods, I personally prefer less current. It seems to me, that the more current, the more the bass here hide in nooks and crannies and don't bite as readily but with less current, they venture out more. I could be totally wrong but my experience up this way has been that the more current, the less fish I catch.

To us the red tail looked like it was from bed fanning. We saw red on a few tails this morning...I think the bass are in the transition stage now, starting to head back out to deeper water.

Thanks Alpha...Once that sun came up today, I got so hot I didn't feel like taking any of my usual scenery pics...I was too busy looking for anything that looked like shade LOL
