Flourocarbon Line Question

Hey Y'all,

I had my first experience with Flourocarbon today, and it was a disaster. I was out on Shellcracker Lake at Williamsport, and about a dozen casts in I cast my spinnerbait right off the line. Backlashed my reel all to h***, and gave up on it. Picked up the spinning rod and fished with it the rest of the day.

Is an Improved Clinch knot bad for Flouro? I have never had a lure cast off like that, and I have tied that knot on mono for years.

What brand of fluorocarbon were you using. I generally use the bass pro brand haven't had that problem. I've always used improve clinch knot been fine for me use Palmero knot for braid?

It was Seagaur Invisx. It was supposed to be 40% more limp but man, this stuff seems so brittle/stiff.

X2 basspro fluro is all I use for main line fluro.

This is probably wrong, but I use braid with a mono leader.

flouro burns easily when clinching the knot, be sure to lubricate (spit). If not, probably a bad batch.

I love Seaguar InvisX. I use palomar knots and dont have problems. Just make sure to soak the line before you tighten. My only issue with it is that it seems to cut clean on and around rocks.

Flourocarbon Line Question

It takes some practice to get use to, but I use a uni knot anytime I'm dealing with flourocarbon. Literally, it cut down my unexplained break offs to almost zero.

I have the InvisX on my rods and it is stiff to me. I was tying the double san diego jam knot until I started to test different knot strength the other day. I tied my normal Trilene knot and compared the strength of that to the double jamb and the trilene seemed to be stronger and easier to tie. My test was not very scientific I tied the knots, put gloves on, pulled until the line or knot failed. The trick is to make sure you lube the line when pulling the knot tight. From what I have heard the issue with knots other than the double sand diego is that as you catch fish the line cuts into itself so you have to retie often.
