Hello all...I am fairly new to the board and have been lurking for a few months. There is some great info on here and I wish I had more to offer. I am a kayak owner and fish primarliy in the area above Nice Mill, Mona, East Fork and West Fork. Kayaking and fishing are great stress relievers!

When my son and I are kayaking above Nice Mill we do fairly well on red eye, blue gill, spotted bass and small mouth using Rebel Crawfish lures and spinners like Mepps and Vibrax. We'll get a largemouth or two as well, but mostly spotteds. We can go from the dam about 1/2 mile until you get to some rapids and then we float back down. The smallies are usually around the rapids and they will hit those crawfish lures there all day.

We have not floated from the put in at Thompson Lane on the Greenway to Nice Mill yet. I was wondering if anybody has done that float? If so, how long does it take? What's the fishing like? Any hazards we should be aware of? Any advice would be appreciated.

i have not yet floated it but want to. Let me know if yall go soon. i have a truck that can carry 3 yaks and can be the take out or put in vehicle.
I have the book "Paddling Around Nashville" and it says there are a few drops and riffles but nothing major and its 6.7 miles. 3 to 4 hour float.

i did Nice Mill to West Fork last weekend and it was nice but too many power boats once you get down by west fork. We caught some spots and a couple trout.

when you do nice mill and paddle up do you walk your boats down the steep embankment that is river left or is there another way?

A few years ago after heavy rains we floated Medical Center - Thompson Lane on a Saturday and Thompson - Nice Mill on Sunday.

Thompson - Nice is a surprisingly scenic float. We had fairly high water, so there may be some obstacles/strainers that we did not have to deal with.

I floated with my youngest son and a puppy on board and had a very pleasant trip.

There is a small weir dam at the Water Treatment plant that you will come to very shortly after putting in. There is a hole in the middle you can shoot through on high water, but you may have to carry over it in low water.

Did not fish this trip, so I cannot say anything there.

Took us 3-4 hours moving slow with lots of kids. We took out on the left side parking lot as you come to Nice Mill.

Thanks for the info. That is helpful to know. From Nice Mill down to West Fork is another float we'd like to do. How far down below Nice does the water flatten out? My kayak is a 10 footer so it is slow on flat water. We very seldom see kayaks above Nice Mill, so it doesn't seem many people fish up above the dam.

I would say it flattens out about 1/2 way into the float.

Thanks for the info about nice mill. I might try to fish for bass there more this year. I normally trout fish in the winter and bluegill fish there in the summer and spring.

Blink: we take out and put in on the left under the bridge if you are going downstream. The path is rocky and steep the last 20 yards or so but it is manageable. We have tried other put-in's closer to the dam, but they are all about the same. We have never put in on the right side below the bridge. We looked at it, but have never tried it.
