What is your favorite winter time bass lure?
 

I like throwing x rap jerk baits. Pearl and clown color. Of course can't go wrong with the jig.

A green pumpkin jig drug allong the bottom as slow as you can stand it.

Zoom Ole Monster worm but its really hard to beat a free lined shiner.

They still bite worms in that cold water?

I fish the ole monster year round. It's always on a pole no matter where I fish for bass. You just have to change up the retrieve. Sometimes they want it hopped, sometimes drug in spurts and sometimes cranked slowly along the bottom like a crankbait.

If I could only fish one bait it would be that in plum.

Floating fly or suspending jerk

I use finesse jigs, shaky heads with finesse worms, deep cranks, slow rolled spinnerbaits

DT20's, DD22's, and flukes. I want to fish jerkbaits, and jigs more.

1/8 oz scrounger jighead with a zoom tiny fluke in baitfish or baby bass. I've caught just about everything that swims on it in even the coldest weather. I also like to use a fluke rigged weightless.

As for bait, I have a hard time beating a free-lined shad or skippie. Shiners and large tuffies have also been reliable, but a 4-6 inch threadfin is almost like crack for predatory fish. The list of fish I've caught on them looks like the Fish ID section of the TN Fishing Reg's booklet.

That's interesting, Travis. I like using the Ol' Monster in summer but never thought about winter time.

Football jig and DT6 on sunlit rocky banks.

I always have a Megabass Vision 110, shad rap, and a football jig tied on in cold weather.

I think as angler's sometimes we pigeon hole ourselves into a certain way fishing seasonally. We fish with this lure in the spring, these lures in the summer, these in the fall and those in the winter. The bass don't stop eating certain baits because of season change or water temp change. They may not be in the same location or in the mood for that retrieve.

Try it nomad. The colder it gets the more I drag it slowly only hopping it to get over cover that it may run into. Also the colder the less you move the rod tip when dragging.

Yes live bait is great too. I took a 5 gallon bucket with a lid drill holes in the side towards the top half and made a shad bucket and tie it on my boat into the water They never die. I also love throwing Cast net for live bait.

I am always open to finding new ways to catch fish and am constantly experimenting...most of the time my ideas don't work out but they sure sound and look good the night before a fishing trip! My problem is, I get discouraged to easily and quickly if a certain lure isn't working and I end up reaching for my 2 old faithfuls, Senkos and jigs.
