Nice looking bunch of fish! We used to catch those in the Red Sea by floating a dinner roll with a big treble embedded in it on top of the reef. I have always wondered would that work in Florida?

Regards

When's the fish fry? Looks like a good trip so far.

Not sure about that Alphahawk we did not give it a try we ate the dinner rolls. We used hard tails and cigar minnows along with cut bait. Rigged with 16 oz round weight with circle hooks. Kings we caught trolling with down riggers at about 47 ft. The captain and mate were great and the seas were smoother than Old hickory at times. We went out 1 and a half to start fishing. This is r yearly work trip what a great company to work for... Nashville dental sales team.

Like salmon, mackarel are an oily fish. They are great in the smoker. Snapper don't do quite as well. The snapper are made for frying...like fish were intended to be eaten. :D

I miss that area...when I was in the Air Force, I was stationed at Eglin AFB for 4 years and spent many a day out on the Destin jetty, having a blast. You never knew what you were going to catch but to me, the best times were when the schools of blues came through, then it was game on!

So I put the king mackarel in the smoker last weekend. Highly recommend if u ever catch these. Brined 3 big filets overnight w salt n brown sugar. Used apple and cherry wood mix for about 4-5 hours at 180. I cheat a little.. I have a masterbuilt electric but I love it. Cracker fresh lemon and Tabasco to finish.
