Sluice operation on Center Hill
 

Can anyone tell me how can I know if the corp will be sluicing on Center Hill this Friday, I have been looking the water mgmnt section on their website but don't know exactly where to look, I have a meeting in Cookeville Friday morning and I'm planning to fish the afternoon either the pond at the Caney or troll the Lake and try for some 'eyes which is my second choice, but I would like to know before driving to the dam and waste time (and gas), any help is appreciated!!

It will listed above the schedule where there is red wording but in a different color usually black.

Thanks Travis!!, is there a way to know what the forcast for tomorrow will be for the sluice? I'm Ok with the generators but Alpha warned me to really watch for the sluice since it creates an eddie that will pull you towards the generation discharge if strong enough, this is the page I found but does not have predicted data on the sluice, i guess I was expecting something similar to the TVA page where they tell you ahead of time what to expect, thanks again!!

No forecast on the sluice. The generators are actually operated by the people located at Cordell Hull remotely. The sluice on the other hand has to be manually opened on site at Center Hill. I doubt unless they absolutely have to open it the gate will be turned on. It's mainly for oxygenating the water downstream and we've had enough rain for that to not be an issue plus with it being a higher water intake lakeside than the generators it would do more harm right now temps wise than good.

Technically when you see how many units are listed for today or tomorrow the sluice isn't factored in anyway because it creates no power. That is why no forecast.

there you go Travis this is what I needed to know!!, now I have a more educated guess for future outings, thanks man!! I will run by it tomorrow evening, if any of you are around come say hi, I will be in a small marsh type camoed Riverhawk!

Also if you have a Facebook account the Corps has a page for each lake and they post on there when they will be running the sluice also. They also post some other good info on there also.

When they're pulling about 12,000cfs does anyone have a guess how long it would take to float from the dam to Gordonsville?

It seems like it takes no time to get to Happy when they're pulling half this amount.

Here is the link to a map of the Caney. With the amount of water they are running I would figure drifting about 4 miles an hour. SO just pick out a spot and do the math. Be very careful around the bridge pilings with this much water.

Roy, I don't have a facebook acct. too much to deal with to bother posting stuff, but thanks for the advice, I will go to my sister, she lives three minutes away from me and she does has one, thanks for the map, a lot of info in a pretty neat little map!!

Also anyone that has a smart phone TVA has an app called TVA lake info that will tell you what there generation is suppose to be for the day

Well I figure I'd report even though we struck out. I was hoping the generation on Friday was only 2 generators but "2 or more" turned out to be over 12,000cfs which had us scooting along very, very fast. We only had one flurry of activity at a spot where the river widened out/slightly slower current.

15 miles in well under 4 hours is tough to fish!

CW you did a lot better than I did, I did not report because my dang meeting extended waaaaay too long when I got finished it was too late to make it to either spot so tired, hungry and frustrated home I went :(
