Creek top water lures
 

Hey guys, just got in for a couple of hours creek fishing after work. The gold TM was tearing the gills up. I was wading about waist deep. As the sun got low I swapped over to a white popper and got into the LM. Does anyone have any top water lures they prefer for creek bass?

Hard to beat a pop-r.

I enjoy tossing poppers on a fly rod but if not doing that a torpedo is a lot of fun as well. You can cast them a long ways ahead then just slowly reel it back.

I am partial to floating Rapalas.

I like way bigger lures than you would think about throwing in the creek. Big walking baits, hollow body frogs, XL poppers. You may not catch numbers but the ones you get will be BIG.

i dont have a lot of TN creek and river fishing experience, but this definitely held true in GA fishing for Shoal Bass when i was fishing larger waters, like the Hooch or Oc. i have a 6 1/2" Rip Roller that caught a great many shoalies.

When i was fishing smaller waters a larger size pop-r (i could throw it farther) or a sexy dawg jr were my go to topwater baits.

It looks like I need a few more lures then. As far as these lures go, early morning and late afternoon only?

If you really just want to catch A big fish. Tie on the topwater first thing and don't take it off. Cloudy days will get you more bites but It doesn't matter, Ive caught numerous 20" smallies between noon and 3 o'clock on bright sunny days. Cast close to cover and shade.

What do you know, large poppers and rapalas were the ticket. I gave the ole TM a break today and focused on LM at the creek. Insulated waders and 93 degrees= bad idea.
