Trout in the Cumberland River (mid-TN)
Over the years, I have heard of a couple of people catching trout in the Cumberland River near Gallatin. One man is a good friend, so I know he isn't lying. Have any of you guys ever caught a rainbow or brown that far down river?

I believe I remember a post by TK where he said he has caught some. Hopefully he will see this and post. I know he has been real busy looking after his wife who recently had knee surgery.

They turn up from time to time. Most of them aren't stockers and are larger fish. Three or four years ago a guy caught a big rainbow around 5lbs fishing off the bank at Saunders Ferry Park and there was a 25-26" brown caught at GSP around then as well but it was in winter.
If happens but not to where you could go target it. |
I've pulled a couple out of the cumberland right where the Stones river hits it. Smaller and assumed they were stocker trout from PP dam site. Any fish is a good fish-

Trout at Gallatin .. <'TK><

Now Like I have stated before ... The Cumberland River is the coldest River in the State by the virtue it is fed by The Dale and Center Hill... That is why it is so prolific for the Bait Fish and ... what makes the Stripers so "BIG" !!! And temps under 70's will maintain Trout ... And it is under that year round a few yards in depth, ask the water skiers that ski around Gallatin when they take a nose dive and end up 10 to 20 feet below ... I have and have the tee shirts collected over the years .... Cold !! NOW THIS IS ABOVE THE DISCHARGE OF THE PLANT This flume in the water will increase the temps by 9 degrees + warmer ... My job was instrumentaion, For water temps and Steam and boiler and turbine control and EPA emmissions out of the stacks ... I have 212 trips up the Gallatin Stacks ... <'TK>< |
TK, what is the average temperature of the water discharge at the GSP? I had a guy tell me today it was 76 degrees but I normally see only 62 degrees in there.
|
LOL, he also told me the minimum length on a rockfish was 18 inches and the limit to keep on white bass was 50. I think he needs to study up a bit.

Your right Merv !! <'TK><

Merv the average canal discharge will be 6 to 12 deg's above the ambient temp of the river proportional to the time of year ... (as Rick Duty would Say !!) This week 76 deg's at the discharge would be statistically Absurd ... <'TK>< |
Thanks TK, and this guy advertises as a guide on the river. (Hope he's not a member of this forum)

Last year I caught a rainbow trout directly underneath the 109 bridge. It was in July at night. I was stripe fishing.
