Sauger fishing near Lebanon, tn
I was planning on putting in cumberland river just outside of lebanon on 231.
Is there a good place close to get sauger size minnows? Anybody been catching any sauger in that stretch of the river yet? I am wanting to go Saturday, have yet to catch a keeper sauger ever. thanks, Jason |
I was catching a few sauger there, a month or so ago. There and upstream towards Hartsville. I heard a couple of reports that some walleye had been showing up in catches here and there. Not sure where the best place to buy minnows is.

sauger, stripe, crappie
All of the above in lock cordull hull

I thought there was a store just past the bridge that had bait but I haven't been that way in a while.

I'm in Lebanon. There aren't any bait shops up by the bridge. There is a good store in town on S. College St. It is behind Rich Marine and across from Charter Cable. I looked it up on Bing Maps and the address is 272 South College Street. Good luck. I may be out on that stretch of river, look for me in a Bass Tracker with stick steering in the bow and a Merc 25hp.

Not sure I will get to go Saturday, but I want to.
Good luck to any of you who do make it out. Looks like good conditions for it. |
cordell hull lock
Sorry I was so short on post last night, was wore out from fishing ,not catching. I have been below dam a couple of times recently and I think fish have moved in . Was in lock before daylight yesterday and left at 7 am. one boat was already there and bank fisherman ,two more boats came in before I left. Lock is packed with with bait and fish; probably have to take a number to get in it will be so crowded. Watched a guy last week, he was throwing some kind of flouresent blue jig tipped with a minnow and let it sink to bottom, then pause and gently raise rod and it would just load up. Nothing violent. He was catching large toothy critters while those pumping rods seemed to be only catching small ones. Corp is not enforcing no boating or bank fishing. Regards

Old Sailor, was that below Cordell Hull? I've live close to Old Hickory and have heard of a few being caught below the dam but with the dam releasing between 27,000 and 37,000 GPS, the river below the dam is 12 ft over summer pool and really rolling. A boater would probably need 2 oz. of weight to drift fish the river itself.

Cordell Hull is a good hike for me but I wouldn't mind the trip if the sauger are staging there now. I have a buddy that might want to make the trek with me.
AND because of your post about the blue jigs, I ordered some blue powder paint and UV BLAST CLEAR POWDER PAINT. I'll make up some blue jigs before I go up there. Did his jigs have any hair on them? Color?. |

Hey sailor when you say in the lock. You are talking about the entrance of it right?

lock
You bet.
|
Awesome gonna try to get there Wednesday or Thursday. I bought my first ever jigs last week and been itching to use them lol.

When the sauger/walleye are there the color of your jig has very little to do with whether they'll bite or not... It's all about being close to the bottom.
