safe to do some wading on the Elk?
 

I'm fairly new to keeping track of dam generations and river fishing, so I was hoping someone could help me out a bit. I see that Tims Ford is "spilling until further notice", but the discharge has dropped to 100 all day today. Does this mean that the waters are safe for wading if I were to head that way to catch dusk or is it too risky not having a known schedule? Never been down there before, but it's apparently Caney's out of service to wading for a while.

The Caney "should" be wading friendly this weekend. It was a pattern they ran last year after the round the clock sluice was shut off. They more than likely will run pretty good during the week then cut it back to 1-2 hr pulse of generation with sluice for the weekend. Last year it was done at 3am-5am.

The Elk was going to be getting a good flushing. I have always heard never trust the TVA generation on the Elk.

Ok good, thanks...if it still looks that way Friday, I'll probably head that way Saturday then. Now just to do some pacing around the house for a few days waiting on the weekend. :)

I am doing the same for the following weekend. The way I figure is, I should have a nice path wore by then to the TV, fridge and bathroom.

a (0.5) on the forecast is "usually" 2 hrs of generation.

Check here on the day of or after 6pm before to see when they gen will be and the bold type to seen what the sluice is running.

Sometimes they will show no generation but in the bold type say sluice open. That is not wading freindly.

:D Definitely. My wife is already slightly annoyed. I think I might have to take the fly rod out back and see if I can learn to cast or something just to get out of the house.

Thanks for the links! I use the 2nd link quite a bit as go-time approaches, but I did not know about the first link with the 5-day forecast - this will make planning my weekends a little further in advance MUCH easier I think.

The Elk is generally safer to wade than the Caney just by the amount of water that gets generated. The elk has hardly run generators all year, and the 100 flow you mentioned is minimal. Stay alert for rising water and be safe.
