Best knot for Fluro to Braid?
 

Whats the best knot for tying a light flurocarbon leader to a light braid? Any website links with a demostration or diagram?

I bought 4lb Nanofill today at BPS. I decided I am going to try lighter line and smaller baits and see if I can get into some smallie action this weekend.

Triple overhand knot. Best by far....it is the only knot i use. It is described in this video.

I like the uni knot to uni knot connection. With heavier line, I first tie a spider hitch to create a 12"-18" length of doubled line in the braid, then use an offshore swivel knot to attach a swivel. I usually tie an improved clinch knot with the leader to the swivel. Both connection types have dealt with large stripers...up to around 40 lbs this year on the heavy set up and to about 15 lbs on the uni-to-uni connection.

I use a double surgeons for all my line to leader knots.

I think Browntrout and Alphahawk are the winners with the triple overhand knot! I needed something simple to tie and yet will hold with the tiny 4 lb test. I tried the uni to uni knot, but I found that hard for me to tie with the 4 lb test. I can see it easier to tie with heavier line such as 10lbs and up. Travis, I'll give the double surgeon knot a try!

The triple overhand knot is also known as a triple surgeon's loop. The double surgeon's works, too, but the triple is better with lighter line. I use the triple to add 7x (2 lb) tippet to the end of my 5x (5 lb) leader when I'm flyfishing.

Albright or double albright. I used this for years the line will break before the knot.

JMO but smallies are not line shy at all. No reason for a leader for visibility reason IMO. Heck I usually use 30 lb braid or 8+lb copoly. Hang a 5+ lb smallmouth on 4 lb line and your asking for a dead fish. Either from breaking off with hooks in its mouth or from delayed mortality from the prolong fight. Heck I even use 8 lb test with float'n'fly setup.

When I do use a leader (for abrasion resistants or for topwater hook fouling issues), uni to uni or slim beauty knots is what I use. With most leader knots, you want lines to be similar in diameter. So for 4lb nano, I would look at 2 lb mono/copoly/flouro or some thin tippet from the fly fishing section. Or move up to 6 or 8 lb nano and use a 4lb leader. PS IMO DAMYL Tectan line is a premium small diameter mono.
