Deleted because I don't want to argue with anyone; this will be my last post here. I appreciate the help and advice some of you have given me. This is a great forum but certain members need to lighten up and stop arguing every little point/post made here. - Jugger - It's nothing personal. I wasn't saying his catfish was bigger than yours LOL Sheesh, man, seriously? That got your blood pressure going?

Needless to say, I won't be at the October gathering so (Newbie), please take me off the list.

Above is my contribution (caught on a watermelon-colored bitsy bug jig); we never did get a picture of my buddy's fish (but it was about the same size) or of any of the bass that we caught that were under the legal 15-inch limit (All our fish were caught on jigs, senkos or shaky heads; they wouldn't touch rattle traps, crank baits, spinnerbaits or chatterbaits - which I foolishly thought would be sure bets in muddy water :(). I’ll have to say that today was the hardest I’ve ever had it fishing. Sure, I fished some muddy water back in Korea but the old Cumberland was moving right along today, the water was muddy, it was hot as blazes out and the fish just weren’t in a cooperative mood at all. But, it sure was a great learning experience for me and I can't wait to get back out and do it again.

Oh and check out this nice catfish one of my coworker's friends caught out there today...he guessed it was around 30 pounds or so.

That is an awful guess, that flatty goes maybe 12 pounds at the most. I caught this one on the cumberland and it was 33 pounds. Huge differnce in his and mine.

Well there was this time that I thought I was wrong, but I was mistaken...LOL. But what do you expect from a retired master SGT?

I'm locking this thread. Everyone's had their say. Two comments:

1. I have learned the hard way that nothing good ever comes of telling someone their fish is smaller than they think it is. I have done this before and I always regretted it. Nowadays I stick with "It is hard to judge the size of a fish from a photo" and I leave it at that. I might laugh about a bad size estimate privately with my friends, but calling out someone on the public forum always leads to the same result. If someone wants to know how big you think their fish is, they'll ask.

2. Nomad, I hope you will reconsider your decision to leave. I appreciate your input here.

This thread could have been an informative discussion on how to fish the Cumberland when it's muddy with strong current - tough conditions for sure. Instead it became a pointless argument about how big a fish was. Let's all try not to do that in the future.

Myself,like bd, has learned .. this is a red flag when you see this ... Kind a like 'Catch and release" ... I would say I am a pretty good judge of Stripers when it comes to size, length, girth, weight etc ... and good at interpulations when you have something to use as a reference like a thumb, finger etc ...

The point I am trying to make is For some folks a 12 pound fish may look like a 20 pound fish or in their mind that is what they want it to be ... But it really doesn't make any difference ...

What we have learned is this ... The poster (no Matter who it is but he is a fellow member of this site) is proud of what he or one of his kids have caught ... Probably the largest fish he or his kids has put in the boat ... In your mind the size may be questionable, Maybe it was just a guess with no way the officially weigh the fish etc ...

But the bottom line is ... He is proud of the accomplishment and you should be to ... This site is for people to learn, enjoy and promote One of the best Outdoor pastimes in the world .... FISHING !!!! ... <'TK>< ;)
