Lost a Big One

Aw, no.

I was on Priest this morning. I'd caught 9 bass in three hours there yesterday (a personal best), so I couldn't resist going out again.

Around noon I caught the biggest largemouth I've ever seen. I reeled him to the kayak and he was a monster. I'd hooked him really well too. I paused for a few seconds, unsure exactly how to grab him. Suddenly he wiggled and snapped the line. #%^$&!

I couldn't believe it. The fish of a lifetime. My heart sank. I think I simply held the line too tight and hesitated too long. I was seated in the kayak and the angle was a little awkward.

I caught a 4-pounder later on. That helped a bit. I wonder if this isn't something a 3-D showing of "Prometheus" and an enormous Belgian beer can't fix.

Still had a great time, but it stings!

Good trip regardless.

I lost a really good one last spring at the boat in Station Camp on Old Hickory. It was up for spawning one night and tried to bring it around the front of the boat like I was Bill Dance or something when it tangled in the trolling motor. My trolling setup has power buttons on the deck so I don't have to turn anything on just step and you can guess what I stepped on.

Oh lessons learned.

Oh' man sorry about that one. Somehow those pigs always seem to escape. Sounds like a real heart breaker. Sorry I haven't called you back my schedule has been messed up so I sleep while most are awake now. Tuesday it will be back to normal. You had better luck than we did on Priest.

Man...hate to hear that. I feel your pain. I guess that's how they get to be so big. Use it as motivation to top that one.
