Carp on flyrods
My son and I went out yesterday and caught this pair of 6 pounders on flyrods on a Percy P mudflat...a fun morning for sure!

Sweet. Carp on flyrods is about as fun and challenging as fishing gets. People who haven't tried it always give me weird looks and say "carp???" - BUT they haven't tried it. You've got to have very accurate casting skills, good "fish sense," and stealth, or you're not going to get them. Carp fishing makes you a better fly fisherman, hands down.
The inside of that boat looks like a Towee? Nice. How do you like it? bd |

I love my Towee and sometimes I let Saltwaterwalt (my dad) ride in it. I've had a lot of boats and the Towee is hands down the most versatile skiff I've owned. I run a 20hp jet so I can run the skinniest water TN has to offer, or I can run down the lake at a good clip to bass fish.

what flies do you use for carp?
|
Sub-surface my go to fly is a Chicago Fly or a big stone fly. When the grass hoppers get going I'll keep one rod rigged with a hopper or cicada like pattern if they are interested in top water.
|
I usually use a Superbugger or a Rainy's Carp Tease.
Except for the cicada hatch, I rarely seem to find carp looking up for food. bd |
Nice and I can't wait to give them a try this summer.
How well do the big hobbs creek reels handle them? I just bought a couple to put on a couple rods. A 7wt with floating line for carp and a 6wt with sinking line dedicated streamer fishing. |
It'll work just fine. I have cheap combos and expensive combos, and it always seems like I end up with a $20 rod and $20 reel in my hands most days.

I have a TFO/Orvis setup that is my primary trout/panfish rod but these others will give me a little more diversity the chase without forking over the dough on extra Orvis spools. |
