Center Hill info needed.
 

Center Hill lake is actually close to me, I live in Watertown on Hwy 70 and Smithville is just a piece away. I always fish OH or PP. But I would like to start fishing the Hill, here is the thing, where to put in that is relatively close to me? Thanks!

There are several close ramps to you. I am not sure if all of these ramps are accessible right now due to the low water. First would be Indian Creek, it is right off of the main drag. You could never get out of Indian Creek and catch all of the fish you would want. When I had a smaller boat I only fished Indian Creek and it is awesome. If you come on around the lake you have Edgar Evins and Cove Hollow. Both of these will give you access to the lower end of the lake. You could also use Floating Mill or Hurricane Creek for access to the middle part of the lake.

What are you mainly looking to catch? That would somewhat dictate where I would put in at. Remember Center Hill is a clear water lake(usually, a little satined this year due to the low water) so light line seems to produce more fish.

Primarily Large Mouth and Smallies is what I am looking to get into. I have a 18.5 Hydra Sports bass boat to fish out of. I use 12 # Flouro so it is relatively a light line.

Nope that is relatively large line. I never use above 8 lb nanofill with 8lb vanish as a leader. If the water is clear i will go down to 6. Alphahawk primarily uses 4 up there. You will notice that the largemouth don't care as much about the line size as the smallmouth do. The water temp up there is now up to 73 degrees so it will soon be time to start night fishing. The lake is pretty hard to fish during the daytime in the summer due to all the skiers.

When the lake is a normal pool this was always a good time to go throw a floating worm into the trees when the water would would come up. It wasn't uncommon to catch 20 to 30 bass a day doing this. It was always a fun way to catch them. Hopefully in 3 more years the lake will return to normal when the dam repairs are done.

Now would be a great time to go and scout the lake as this is some of the lowest elevations that you will ever see. I plan on doing that all summer long with a GPS.

I teach High school so I will be off for the summer so I will be fishing mostly during the week. I just checked and Cove Hollow is actually 5 miles closer to me than Old Hick. Looks like I will go hwy 70 and turn left just out of Dowell Town on 96. How is the ramp at Cove Hollow?

I think they have 2 ramps and 1 of them is open. I believe they do charge a $5 fee at that ramp.

What about Indian Creek ramp? That is only 19 miles from my house versus 26 I drive to OH. Thanks for all your help!

That ramp is open and there is no fee on it. It used to be a little shady down there and I have heard of people getting stuff stolen from their vehicles. I personally have never had any problems down there. As I mentioned earlier there is a lot of good fishing in Indian Creek, largemouth, smallmouth, and Kentucky. Also this time of year it is a good place to locate the big bluegills in 15 to 20 ft of water. As I said earlier I would spend a lot of time exploring the lake right now. I think it will pay off big down the road.

Yep don, it used to be that you were taking a chance at Indian creek. It's a shame because its so close to the main road. Cove hollow is a good ramp but get ready to deal with a lot of people and tight parking on fridays and the weekends . I always go down to Casey cove which now has the marina but you can put in on the side the marina used to be on before low water conditions!!
It's a nice ramp as well as a fee ramp. Totally different lake than what your used to don!!

Edgar Evans has a free ramp that I always use. It is a very short run to Indian creek from there. I live in Mt. Juliet and always thought it was the closest ramp for me.

I put in there today, when you go do you take I40? I live in Watertown and took hwy 70 then 96. By the time I got to Edgar Evans my truck breaks were smoking!

Don you would be better off going on to cookeville highway and put.in at hurricane or better yet the Holmes creek ramp. It is a little steep but it doesn't take long to get down to the bottom!!
