Anyone been to the OH dam?
 

Headed out saturday morning with a friend of mine. Any OH dam reports out there?

I went this morning, fishing from the bank on the the hendersonville side. I arrived just before sun up and stayed until 10:30. They only had one generator running, but unfortunately for me, it was the one next to the gates, instead of the one by the bank. The skipjack were in there pretty thick because thats pretty much all I caught. I only saw two boats out there and neither caught anything, that I could see.

The dam has cooled literally and figuratively.
Mid October you might try the steam plant if you are looking for rock fish.
For smallies you can troll. We caught two last weekend.

I'm going to try my luck down there from the bank tomorrow... Hopefully it won't be a waste of time..

Cooling water below oh dam isn't necessarily a bad thing, just remember this equation: cold water + oh dam = sauger & walleye, sauger & walleye + beer = Heaven on a plate.

Is there a way to specifically target for them from the bank in the winter time? Seems like every winter I will randomly catch one or two. I'd love to catch them more often since they're my one of my favorite fish to eat outside of yellow perch.

Yep, but I don't like to reveal it publically. We need to meet up down at the dam sometime. It isn't difficult once you get the hang of it, but it is hard to explain in text.

Yep, thats where I'll be. Thought I'd give the dam one last try. Last year we caught a 36lb'er, the biggest that's been in my boat. (SP) Use skipjack at the steamplant.

I think it may be a little early for the GSP.Maybe not.I usally dont start there till the water temps bottom out.Dec. is the earliest I have caught rockfish of any size there but some people may do good there now. I may be missing out on some good fishing. Its to far for me to fish it through the early fall. If anyone has luck there in the early fall pm me and let me know.I always wait for a good cold snap and the water temps get in the mid 40s before I start fishing there.

I will probably head to the dam Saturday night on the Hendersonville side and give night fishing a shot. Never tried fishing there at night. What time, in general, is it best to start fishing at night? Anyone is welcome to join me. I've been torn between staying home to root for my home teams, Milwaukee Brewers playoff game and the Wisconsin/Nebraska game, or fishing. I think fishing is going to win out :D

GSP October
 

Last year we puttered up the GSP channel and ahead of us rock fish were blasting skip jack out of the water. My friend hooked around a 30 but it got off at the boat. If current and baitfish, rocks will follow. As the traffice increases, more scarce. I find best to fish 3AM-5AM on weekends right in the boils. Otherwise you are in a small river with dozens of big river boats.
Not surprisingly, rock fish don't stay long with a symphony of mercuries purring by every 10 seconds.

I just never been this early.I hear alot of fish are being caught up river now below Cordell.

What kind of temps are coming out of the GSP. I heard that in the summer they may have to use a new cooling tower because of the water getting to hot.If its very warm those fish will be stressed.

I thought they were putting cooling towers at cumberland city. I havent heard of them doing it at gsp
