Old hickory spawn ?
Is it possible bass are bedding now on old hickory. The water has been so messed up and cold this year I don't see how. Temps are still 55 or there about.i always thought they need 60's.
Reason I ask is my son went bow fishing Sunday nite with a friend. Says they saw several largemouth in bull creek and other pockets nearby on bed. Said they could dang near run over them and would not move off bed. Is this possible? |
It's very possible. There is a window of temperatures, usually 55 and up. I bet there were bass on bed last full moon with the water temps we had before it got cool again. Bass also move up in waves to spawn too.

I’d almost guarantee bass could’ve been picked off of bed last full moon. Water temp was up at that time also. I feel like the biggest bass in the lake spawn first and in the colder water. But once that water hits a steady 55-58, it’s on like donkey Kong. Last weekend the best temps I found was 55. Most of old hickory, was 50-52. It’s about to bust wide open and everyone will catch them. Hopefully this monkey on back will decide to hop off so that I can catch them as well!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
You can bet on it. Water temp isn't the only trigger, it's longer daylight hours and moon phase. Next full moon is April 1, if we get some stable weather after this little cold snap you should be on the water.

Yes, some have already moved up. A few weeks ago I posted my best 4 fish were 12 lbs. All 4 had belly’s ready to burst and caught shallow. Water temp was 55-56 at the time.

This video provides some great information on the bass spawn process, triggers and timing. Great information.

With the weather acting the way it is, I'll bet the spawn kicks up the last week of April.
