Cumberland steam plant report
 

Hello again fellas, just reporting some recent fishing. Hit up the Cumberland City Steam Plant tonight from about 430 pm to 1030 pm, water level is incredibly high (up over the walkway) and skip jack count is low, we only caught 3 and the other gentlemen there caught 5 total. Had a couple bites with artificials on a 1/2 ounce hook with a 4 inch white trailer but didn't catch anything, and 1 bite on a white spinner. One guy caught 2 channel cats both 2 pounders.

Been reading a lot about Normandy and the fishing there but I have never been there. Looking to head there all day Saturday but don't want to head there uniformed so tips would be very helpful. I would really like to go out and catch some beautiful rainbows and more. Thanks again everyone, sorry about the long read.

I fished Normandy yesterday. I didn't get a hit. The flow is 800 CFS. Just too much water but such a nice day I went anyway. But went last week and had about a dozen with same flow. The best time to hit Normandy is when flow is less than 200 CFS. Having said that you can catch fish when flow is less than 500 CFS. Trout Magnet....2# testline.....2# test fluro leader is best bet for catching trout there. With that setup catches of 100-150 trout a day are not uncommon. They have not had a shad kill at Normandy yet. When they do the trout gorge themselves and put on weight quick. When that happens 12 inch trout become very heavy fish and are a hoot to catch...see pic. Feb-May are prime times. The trout live sometimes through July but usually by middle of June they are done for and with the mild winter we have had so far don't know if there will be enough cold water to get them through June this year. A great place to fish though. There is a Spotted bass run in March that will last for about 5 days and they get in there thick. It can happen anytime during the month so I am sure I will be hitting up Normandy quite a bit during March. Trout and Spots.....a lot of fun.

Thank you vert much for the response! I was jist looking at a topo map right now with a hot cup of coffee. The water all around is incredibly crazy high unfortunately. Questions for ya, can I run that setup through my baitcaster? Also, my boat is down for the content for a while, everything went wrong that could go wrong. Sonar recepticle gave out, trolling motor battery is shot, and a fuel line in the engine started leaking. All with in a week. Soooo I am currently restricted to the bank. Can bank fishing be successful there?

You're going to have to have a spinning outfit to use a Trout Magnet. You can't get a boat in below Normandy. Plenty of bank fishing and wade fishing. When the flow gets down to 75 CFS the stream is so narrow you can cast from one bank to the next. But for 6.5 miles there is great stocker trout fishing with usually 27,000 trout stretched out over those 6 plus miles. A lot of fish.

Would I fish open water? A tight stream? Been doing some research and found that you should try and get a trout magnet inches off the bottom or as close as you can to it.

If you do a forum search on "Trout Magnet" you will find a ton of info on how to fish it. But your are right in your assumption on keeping it close to bottom. Below the dam at Normandy it is just a small river. If you also do a forum search on "Normandy" there will be a ton of posts about fishing there.
