HDS Gen 3 or Gen 2
 

I have been back a forth. HDS Gen 3 7 or HDS Gen 2 9? Both are within what I am willing to spend.

Bigger screen, "older" technology, less functionality or smaller screen, "newer" technology, more functionality.

Which way would you go?

I always trade up when it comes to marine electronics. Trust the old saying, "Bring enough gun".

So you are saying smaller screen with "newer" technology over larger screen with "older" technology?

buy the gen 3 unless you already have the structure scan box youll be money ahead in the long run

So with the Gen 3 you don't need the LSS box? Just the Structure Scan transducer?

Verify before you buy, but ive been doing the same shopping and from my understanding is Yes. no more need for a box, just the LS2 transducer. between that and the WIFI im prettry sure im going with the gen 3 unless i can get a smoking deal on a reman HDS10-12 gen2. and you can still link to the older HDS. So in the spring when everyone pulls off there HDS 5 or 7 to upgrade grab a deal and put it up front.

I have the Gen2. Wish I had the Gen3 because it has built in Wifi I could send the screen to an iPad without buying extra hardware.

I thought you had to have a "touch" version to do away with the SS black box, and just attach a LSS xducer to the touch HU and that would activate the SS functions.

I would like to have a Gen 2 8/9/10 with Insight if anybody got one or know where to get one, let me know.

There are a bunch on eBay.

I just upgraded from HDS Gen1 to Gen3, wow what a difference. I would say go with the Gen3 and a point1.

I went with a 9 at the console and a 7 on the bow with a Point1.
I am using a 2006 Ranger Z21

Also have Gen 3 9" and very sweet. No need for LSS box plug and play. Point 1 is needed for structure fishing off from shore line. End of year can also get 3d structure scan, can't be used on Gen 2
