Redneck Rod Holders

Have not been able to find a suitable rod holder for my river jon. Hate to drill holes in aluminum, and the clamp ons just really don't work with the size of the Alumacraft lip. Also want it to be easily removable, both for working through overhangs, plus anything sticking out when I run it up on the trailer gets knocked off by the trailer guides.. Finally came up with this arrangement.

Started with a cheapo rodholer from Academy. The "small" version is $3.99, while the "large" version is $4.99. The only difference I can see is the price, as I held both up to the scanner....so got the small. Then a 1/2 x 5 inch bolt, couple of hose clamps, about 30 seconds with a hacksaw, some duct tape, and voila - a handy little easily removable rod holder for less than 8 bucks all in.. Just chuck it in the existing oarlock and you are good to to..

I've got the same problem with round alumacraft rails. What I did is cut 2 pieces of 1.5" aluminum angle iron and nest them like the picture. I hold them together with Velcro. They just sit and slide anywhere on the rail. You can use any clamp on rod holder. Grips super tight... no way it can fall off...
