Fry Question

While I was fishing JPP yesterday I noticed quite a bit of fry in the backs of pockets. My question is what kind if fry do you guys think it was? Im almost positive it wasn't bass or at least not largemouth bass anyway. The reason I say that is because there didn't appear to be anything guarding the fry. I never got a bite near it. I've read that smallmouth don't hang around and protect their babies so I guess it's possible it could have been SM. I don't know what fish spawn at cooler temps than bass. I know a couple of weeks ago we had some water temps around 60*. Any suggestions?

Are we talking fish fry? If so let me recommend ‘Zatarains

I’ve seen this often in very early spring......technically still winter. I have often wondered what fish....if any, could spawn say in mid 50’s...or lower water. I don’t have an answer but the ones I used to see when I would kayak in VFW lake in early to mid March looked like bass to me. There are no shad in that lake.....just cats....bluegill....crappie.....shell cracker....and of course bass.

Would not surprise me if it was not white bass, they spawn pretty early.

It has me curious. I saw this in several places I fished the other day. I hope you guys had a chance to get out there today or this weekend. My back got to really hurting me on the water Wednesday and I went to the lake yesterday and it only took about 30 minutes to get pretty bad so I left. It was sore and stiff again today so I didn't try it but today was THE day to catch them the way I've been catching them. Hope you guys catch a bunch this weekend!

Man I hate to hear that about your back. I’m getting an epidural Wednesday to hopefully fix mine up. I got out again today on the whites at Nickajack. Pretty much same as yesterday.

texas rig, was watching five minutes of the bassmasters online this morning and they had one of the young elite pros as guest host and he said the spotted bass spawn early in 50-55 degree water. so maybe that was what you saw?
