rockfish on the Hick
Went out with Dakota today on the Hick, didn't get started till about 10 AM.
Trolled for about 90 minutes before we started marking decent fish. There were bait balls from 25 ft up to 10 ft all over the place, looked to be a tough bite. After 2 hours we had diddly squat. Finally started marking good schools of fish here and there. Once we found them, it was "GAME ON"! We started catching nice 6-12 lb rockfish, a coupla white bass and one lone hybrid. After we hit 18 fish we decided to quit at 20. All good plans of mice and men...we hauled in #20 but before we could haul in lines, #21 snuck in for a quick snack. Had a very enjoyable time with Dakota, doesn't seem like we get together as often as we should. We'll have to start making time! |
Good job !

Enjoyed it Merv! Good to have you on board. I sure like replaying that time we had 4 out of 5 rods go down with you having 2 on an A-rig, I’m fighting the 12lb’er and the other stripers we couldn’t get to for a while. It was a beautiful mess!

Dakota taught me so well, I took another guide I know out to the same place the next morning. First fish of the day was a 33.60 lb rockfish, followed by a bunch of 12, 13 lb fish, an 18 lb'er and another 33+ lb rockie. Total weight for the day was 151 lbs. Dakota was out there with another friend who wanted to fish live bait. His friend's total with live bait was zero. The friend called me up the next morning asking if I would go out with him and show him what we had done the previous day. Met him at noon and loaded up. First fish of the day was 37 lbs, then an 18, next up was a 25'er, then a 28, and another 25. Total tally for the day was 156 lbs. So, yes, I thank Dakota for teaching me how to catch fish, unlike you, who only has taught me how to get skunked 6 trip's in a row! |
