Fished solo Sunday, keeping tabs on the fish.
Not the best day, nor the worst.
Managed to catch 56 fish, mixed bag of white bass and hybrids.
Caught some of the biggest white bass I have ever caught. Had 8 over 2 lbs, one was 2.24 lbs (I have four digital scales on board). Someone told me the lake record was 2.375. I dont know. Maybe he was spoofing me.
I caught fish from Racoon Island down to Long Hunter and lots of place in between.
Jigging spoons off the bottom was most productive but I did catch some trolling too.

Is this a good time for white bass? I thought I had to wait until spring.

Would love to cast for these guys in kayak with my sinking line and and a woolie bugger.

Not sure how deep you can get with that presentation. We have been catching these fish 25 - 30 feet deep.

Yes, he was spoofing you. I always culled anything under 3 lbs.

Don't know if the guy cared or not ab out records, but I helped clean, 2 nights in a row, well over 200 white bass each night, from 1.5 to 2.5 lbs, largest we weighed was 2.75 lbs. This was about 25 years ago. One guy was catching them all, by himself at night in the summertime. Somewhere around Bryants grove is all I was told. I have no clue who it was or actually where they were caught, but they were the largest white bass I have ever seen and after the second night of helping clean them, I told the friend of mine, the guy gave him the fish, I was done. I never have been a fan of catching white bass, for sure never have and don't like to eat them, and when he called to ask if I would help clean them, I said of course, thinking no way would there be to many, there was no limit on white bass then, but 2 nights of it and I was done and even back then I had cleaned thousands of fish, but I didn't want anymore of that.

I'd have to do what they call "vertical nymphing". I learned it on a private reservoir in NV that housed MASSIVE trout.

Have never caught a white bass on the fly and I imagine it could be non-stop action in the right spot at the right time.

I stopped kayaking when I started wading but I think I'm ready to take the Coosa out again.
