Mushroom hunting....

Do they find spring Morel mushrooms in and around Nashville area?

I've heard they do. I've not hunted them in Tennessee. I used to be in the woods either turkey hunting or mushroom hunting from March until the 2nd week of May when I lived in Indiana.

I have always thought those were further out on the plateau. Personally never seen any around here. COTW's is all I have ever really seen much of or that I could pick from a crowd.

In Sumner County they can be gathered by the bushel basket.....but ain't nobody going to give up those spots...just like fishing spots....maybe even worse.....LOL. But seriously.....there are plenty there.

Whatever you do, don't eat the ones with red or blue on them. ;)

We do have elm trees in Tennessee. The are very common. I picked 20 nice morels about a two weeks ago in my front yard. I have found then where cane grows along creek beds and around old rotting round bales of hay. I live near Columbia and I think we should be on the tail end of mushrooms. This year is unusual so they might be popping still. If they haven't popped in your are yet, this warm rain coming up will do it. I have some friends that road hunt for them. They would find gravel roads and drive slowly looking for them. Needless to say they did quite well. Once they find a patch they return every year. Good Luck !!!!
