Dale Hollow walleye and Smallie report
It's one of my favorite times of the year on Dale. The water temps are cooling and the fish are migrating to their winter haunts. The loons and terns are working bait together with bald eagles occasionally getting into the mix no to mention the amazing colors of the back drop. The fishing has been great and yesterday, a Sunday, we practically had the lake to ourselves. We even caught a Dale Hollow striper..

Nice job Dave.
Really like how open the boat layout looks. Bet you have a lot of more options now as far as setups. |
Thanks guys.
Travis, I'm loving it. There's nothing like the Ipilot. Plus I can take up to 5 people with me and everyone gets a comfortable seat. |
Out of curiosity what did that drum boga?
|
Mine are only rated to 20lbs and they were bottomed out. My guess is near 30.
|
great report dave!

Have you ran across any of those browns lakeside in a while? There's gotta be some double digits in there now. |
Not this year. I actually catch more muskies than brown trout. We've seen them up to 10 lbs and lost a few bigger than that.
|
Fishing continues to be good for trophy walleye. We're hoping the turn over is staggered as opposed to last year when the whole lake turned at once. Here's a couple more.

I noticed that you havent posted any rainbows lately. I really like catching the rainbows up in the lake. Especially in the early spring. Is all still good witht hem in the lake? Roy |
Haven't been fishing down by the damn much this year. We've have caught some nice ones though when we've made the run.. Not many people ask for them. They mostly want the 'eyes. Here's one from the this weekend.

Great fish Dave!, those eyes are true trophies I dont care where in north America u fish, now I understand why folks from up north and the upper midwest come to fish with you, I hope I can do that myself soon!
|
Thank you very much for the kind words. It's all about time on the water... No Internet short cuts here.

Would next weekend be ok to fish dale hollow. When does the turnover happen? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
It generally staggers when it turns. First the upper, the wolf and the Obey. Then the mid starts and by the time the lower is turning the upper is usually done. If its turning where you are, I'd look shallow. I'll be up some in the next few days and will let you know how it's progressing.

Great thanks. I'd probably put in at Hendricks marina?

This 24 incher was on the skinny side plus the biggest smallie of the day and a magnum spot.

This is probably the fattest walleye we've caught in Dale.

Beautiful looking fish! Did you get a measurement? Where I'm going with this is I am not educated on weight of walleye vs length. I have caught a few each year but am certainly not familiar with them. I have pics of several 21 inch fish my son and I have caught below Normandy. Then I have one that measured 25.5 inch and on an uncertified scale weighed 8.5 pounds. Are walleye like crappie.....in the fact that a one or two inches makes a big difference in weight? The 21 inch walleye looked healthy to me but is it common for a walleye measuring only a few inches more to be more than double the weight? Just like in the bluegill world there is a big difference in a 9 inch fish vs a 10 inch fish.

That bank right behind you has some awesome smallie fishing on it....just saying......
