Frog gigging!

Anyone know of some good frog gigging waters? I have never been and am going Friday night.

You are in for a treat. Ever eaten frog legs from the wilds (not commercial raised)?

TNBronzeback 08-13-2014 01:14 PM

I would think the ponds at any golf course would be loaded. your best bet might be the state run courses as far as gaining access.

I will pay attention tonight and if I notice a bunch I will let you know, Maybe I could tag along if I have the time and not to many people are going.

"All waters of the state are open to bullfrog hunting except waters within state and federal wildlife refuges. The season is open year-round, except on TWRA managed lakes the season is June 1-30. The bag limit is 20 per person, per night. The use of firearms is prohibited for bullfrog hunting on Wildlife Management Areas and TWRA lakes. Pellet guns (air rifles) are not firearms. Only domestically raised bullfrogs or parts thereof may be sold. A hunting license is required to take bullfrogs. No WMA permit is required."

Yeah man! I'll let you know.

It will be interesting to see how you do.

I have never gigged for them before. Caught them on a fly rod though. :)

LOL..!

I figured you did but just in case you didn't wanted to make sure you got legal. Would have hated to hear they ticketed you for taking 22 bullfrogs after the fact when you could have just caught 360 white bass instead. :)

There is no part of frog-gigging that interests me. The same neighborhood you find frogs, is the same neighborhood you find cottonmouths. No Thanks.

MN Fisher,

I have gigs, and I have a spot that may have potential. You cannot walk around the lake/pond so it's kayak only accessible.

jimj3561 08-14-2014 04:09 PM

You can come Gig at my garage door - every night they gather waiting to eat bugs attracted by the garage light...

creekcrappie 08-14-2014 05:20 PM

If you want toads, they are EVERYWHERE at my house. I can't hardly walk outside without having one jump on me.

Fish Whisperer 08-14-2014 05:25 PM

I used to go to the end of lock 4 rd to gig frogs about 15 years ago. Not sure what it looks like back there now.

MNfisher 08-16-2014 12:21 AM

Anyone ever see that episode of Duck Dynasty where they played golf on a course and noticed a water trap was filled with toads so they snuck onto the golf course at night to go gigging? They got busted with a cooler full of them haha.

I see nothing wrong with using a 12 gauge to kill spiders either. I hate them that much.

Lol..i remember that one. Phil made his stealthy exit just before they all got busted. Seen him use that technique a few times on the show and left the boys there to get busted! Hilarious.

Yea that episode where they were fishing on someone else's land and the warden was called because of gunshots... them firing at some beavers. Phil left as soon as he got sight of the warden haha. That show is great and I bet those guys are a lot of fun to hunt with.
