I received a present to myself in the mail today! I am ready to put the smack down on some ultra light fishing!! Heading to Pickwick in the Morning!

I have had a setback in my recovery. Went to 6 week post op and the doc told me to do whatever I felt like and he would see me in 4 months. So left ST Thomas Hospital on cloud nine and drove to HOOK 1 to pick out new kayak and rigging. My leg started to swell and the swelling shut down the quad muscle. Couldn't lift my leg and was lucky to make it back to Columbia. It has recovered somewhat. To say it has bummed me out is putting it mildly. Going to try to find out what is causing the swelling this week. But I wont go down easily. All my gear is ready to go. Hope you tear them up tomorrow. I have a feeling you will get into Whites....crappie...smallies.....and maybe some Gills if you fish all 3 spots. Good luck and looking forward to good report.

When my knee gets well we will all just go.I have 3 awesome spots down there and I will be shocked if Mike doesn't wear them out today. But then again it is called fishing.....LOL

Sorry to hear about the set back Alpha. Hope it isn't too bad.

I like those colors. I picked up up the larger TM kit the other day it had some red, orange, gold /silver flake jigs. I have not fished the Crappie Magnets yet. Have any of you used them in the Caney during generation in place of a a maribou jig? Just wondering if it would bring in larger fish and stay down in the current.

I have not really given it a good try. The 1/8 Double Cross Jig Head is the biggest that is made for the Crappie Magnet....of course you can use 1/4...1/2 or whatever head you want. What I want to try during generation is the Zig Jig. browntrout told me about those but neither of us ever bought any....pretty expensive.

I'm getting ready to place a big order monday and thought about throwing in a few packs of these.

They are good....a little too big for me though....the 1/16 with #2 hook would work for crappie though. I don't know if you have fished with tungsten before....I assume you have....but that stuff is addicting. Using them with braid or fluorocarbon I can feel it when they breathe on it. Using the 5mm tungsten on a #10 hook I can feel Gills thump it at depths of 30 feet....thats pretty impressive. I went over to H20 in Columbia and she tried to get some small ones from I think it was called...Ecco Pro....but they didn't make any that small. If I am in shallow water I will stick with lead...but fishing deep they are worth the money...IMHO.

$2.50 apiece for 1/4 oz jigs.....:eek:....if i had been using them today....I would have lost over $35 worth.....

When I got off the River today , I came home and poured @100 1/8 jigs....cost about $4.50........

No that was a buddy of mine though...I would have been riding with him if I didnt have to work, he rode 84 miles yesterday.....

On jet skis, in February?? Are you guys NUTS?? LOL, you're a lot tougher'n me, that's for sure.

Yeah I know...but fishing with tungsten is different. I can use tungsten...keep the same profile as a lead 1/64 jig....yet it will weigh almost twice as much.....not quite but close. There is a big difference in waiting for a 1/64 ounce to fall 30 feet and a 1/20. For me it is about keeping the same small profile and yet almost double my weight. Plus the stuff is so dense it really transmits the feel up the line far better than lead.

I guess Ill never know about tungsten then because most of the fishing I do is "If you arent getting hung up and losing jigs, you arent where the fish are....."

LOL....We dress for it.....If you havent been on a ski in the last few years you wouldnt believe how stable and dry they are now a days....you dont get wet unless you want to.....

Do you guys have any suggestions for Pickwick in a couple of weeks? My brother is taking his 7 year old over to catch some fish. My nephew wants to bass fish, but he is used to fishing a private lake (caught 7lb. largemouth just yesterday), and I believe he will be quickly discouraged when the numbers and size go down. We are not real familar with Pickwick, but that's where they want to go. Do you guys have any guide recommendation that I can pass along to my brother? I think they might be happier going after some crappie if the weather will stabilize. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

He can try below the dam..from the bank.....the White bass have been moving in and out down there. I would think any 7 year old would love that action.
