Friday Night Fights
 

I went on Friday thinking if I can catch bait I can catch rock fish. It turned out the bait was scarce but the rocks weren't. I posted one of my pictures. I caught 4 all about the same size on a 9ft bass pro musky rod, abu garcia reel and 50lbs spider wire. I caught three of my fish back to back- three casts.

Ladies and Gentlement- Summer has arrived. Start casting.

That is what I thought but I don't think there are below OHD.
Many broken lines. If it was, It was a giant hybrid.

Hybrids get pretty big, I've seen 13 lbers. And I'm sure they get bigger. In Illinois they have them over 20 lbs. so they probably get bigger here.
I just checked....the TN state record is 23 lbs 3 oz.

That is a nice hybrid though and a lot of fun to catch I'm sure.

They are below OH Dam....and that is a hybrid.

Agree it looks like a hybrid to me too

Have caught quite a few Hybrid fishing from the River Walk in Clarksville. Speaking of locking through....the Silver Carp are getting quite abundant below Pickwick Dam.

Nice Hybrid. Got to love it when they are hitting like that. I can confirm that hybrids still grow in the teens in our local waters. Good choice in baits, that is one of my go-to's.

Lupan ... Nice fish but def a Hybrid ... I think the state Record for Hybrids the last time I looked (which was not in the last decade) was around 23 or 25 pounds ... Now that is WHOUP ASS !! I had one take a new ABU 6500 and high dollar rod in the East Fork taken away from while I was fishing with Mike Anderson ... Don't think the time it takes to drop the rod tip to set the hook when the rod is pointing at him That they can't take it from ... you are wrong, a $300 lesson ... QUICK AND STRONG !!! I didn't know they stocked them below OHD. It was not a record but still probably the biggest I have ever caught. The bite is on.

That and another type of that lure. I like the 6oz Panther Martin swim baits. Hard to throw but every fish is a monster. The only exercise I get.

Did you mean 6 inch, or 6 oz? :eek: 6 oz., that would wear your arms out pretty darned quick! Hmmm even the 6" at BP weigh 2 1/2 oz which would get old after about 25 casts :)

There have been quite a few hybrids below OH & JPP since May 2010 flood... there was a couple of large schools on the lower end of Priest a few days before and I suspect that some traversed to Cheatham .. nice fish

In MN Muskie fishing we would toss the "pounder" bulldawg. A 16 oz swim bait all day in November on Mille Lacs! That will wear a guy out!

Yeah, I have thrown the bull dog all day too. The problem is when I switched to a bass bait after literally beating the water all day and not even getting a follow and catching a 44 inch musky! I still like chunking those babies though...

Monday was slow though I heard from 2-3PM a guy caught 6, lost a big fish around 5pm.

I caught two. One was 24 inch hybrid, another was 34 inch ROCK.

Good to hear you caught some quality fish. I would've stayed but I was out of jigs and my arms, back, and butt were sore from paddling to fight the current and fish. As hard as stripers and hybrids fight, a kayak makes for a tough time. I'll be back out this weekend, if not sooner.

By the way, midtnkayakangler was out there this morning. No luck on striped fish, but he did catch a 16" walleye near the bank between the lock and the ramp.

PS: kayaking close to the gates is not for the faint of heart or novice yakkers. There is a back eddy that is stronger than it seems and it can get you in a bad place FAST. I was using the kayak more than my rod to fight the fish by holding the rod between my legs while I back-paddled to get into calmer, safer water. The 13 lb hybrid and 12 lb striper I landed took almost 10 min to land, and even the 20" fish were a chore. If anyone tries to go in his/her yak, BE CAREFUL and bring plenty of water or Gatorade because you will sweat. Oh yeah, wear a life jacket...no excuses.

If you are in a kayak please don't attempt this unless you are very experienced. Let people know where you are, let them know before getting on the water and when getting off the water. I would also recommend a partner.

I echo the respect the dam comments. Respect and fear. Two boats on Monday nearly were swept into the spillway door outflows by anchoring near the break line and not realizing the flow is actually going towards the doors. One boat had a child in it. Only the child had a lifejacket on. I know that most of the once a year dammers don't read this page and think that water only flows downstream but it does not. Doors and generators create tornados of water. Always check the flow before you start fishing. Generators and doors, depending upon how many of each create their own treachery. Be careful. Never anchor near the spillway doors. Go home dry.
