The bass fishing continues to be pretty good. The fish bite yesterday was a little weird. They were not aggressive but still bit well. I lost several because I just didn't get a good hook set. They would shoot straight up out of the water and throw my bait. I caught all my bass on a worm.
The one in the picture still had a blood dripping off the tail. The rest of the bass were post spawn. |
Nice looking fish.

Nice one! Im still mad at that lake. If 5lbers started jumping in the boat I wouldn't be there to see it. On a serious note I'm glad the lake is fishing well.

If that lake is fishing good, then I’m sucking hind tit!! I’ve caught 2 keepers in the last two weeks. And last weekend we didn’t have one 14” fish all day Sunday. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Skillet, I am catching good fish in 5 - 8 feet of water. I am finesse fishing with 6 lb. line and small 4" worms.

That’s good to know. I assume ned rig or shakey head? Are fishing rock or brush? Thanks for the info Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Fishing a 1/8 oz. slider head with a 4" dead ringer worm. Mainly fishing rock and small drops. I caught them in the Shute's Branch area and Station Camp.

Fished a charity tournament today. We only had four keepers and the largest one died on us because it was hooked deep. I also broke off a 3 - 4 lb. fish at the boat. The winners found the fish. They has a 6.5 and and 5.3 with a total weight of just over 20. The two big fish had bloody tails.

I went at 0530 this morning and caught 10 by 0700 all on buzzbait, all on clean banks near emergent grass, not in the grass, all in one foot or shallower water. This was in main lake flats not in coves or creeks. I was in 3’ casting parallel to the bank retrieving as close to the bank as possible. It’s buzzbait time.

Thanks for the detailed report Buc. Plan on hitting it Monday.

Repeat action again this morning even with water level dropped nearly another foot, or so it seemed. Buzzbaits and bladed swim jigs, throw to the bank and get hit within the first two reel cranks. Water temp 65.5 from 0600 - 1030.

You didn’t happen to see any shad spawn action did ya?? That should be in full swing really soon if not. And something I’m gonna try is the donkey rig(double fluke). Has anyone tried it? Seems like it should be killer in the shad spawn. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Skillet - no shad spawn evident in the Cages Bend area. Water temps on main lake flats were 65-66 so perhaps still a bit low. With the overcast skies a shad spawn would have been awesome. I’m thinking next full moon.

Water temp was the same Sunday. We caught 30 or so fish on spinnerbaits and craws...no shad spawn either. Next full moon is Sunday.....so we’ll see Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I have not. I was going to Sunday, but seeing the water down so far and it being cloudy as it was I stuck a spinnerbait in my hand and went to work. It will be ready and heavily used in the shad spawn which should be this weekend if water temp will act right, climb up and stabilize. That’s gonna be the key factor. Oh, and the full moon this weekend. I’d like to find big belly kelly that showed up late to the dance sitting on her bed!!! 😂🤣 But I’m more ready for the shad spawn.
