Was up this morning to listen to "Mike and Mike in the morning"....LOL....with Doug Markham. Since I was up decided to head out to Blue Cat. The bite was on! In two hours caught 55 fish. Caught 12 Black Nose crappie all around 12 inches....got 7 gorgeous Shell Crackers all at or very close to 10 inches....and 36 Gills right at the 7-8 inch mark. The crappie were caught with a Bison color Trout Magnet using the 1/64 TM jig head. They were in about 4 feet of water but were just about a two feet under the surface. To catch the Crackers and Gills used a Trout Magnet on a 5mm tungsten jig. They were in 4 to 6 feet of water but down in the rocks. If you didn't crawl it along bottom they would not come up for it. For you bass and hybrid guys pretty good top water in middle of lake on the surface. The Gulls were tearing up the shad along with the fish. It is time to put the kayak in and catch 100 of the Gills and spend 5 or 6 hours out there. The water is much warmer than just a couple of days ago. Pics are not good....taken with iPhone and just didn't want to take time away from fishing....only could stay a couple of hours. All fish were released to fight another day.

Awesome! Thanks for listening!
I NEED to take my kayak out to those busting hybrids!!! |
Nice trip.
Is there a fee to fish that lake? I wonder how accessible the hybrids are to a fly during the year or is the lake pretty deep? |

Nice fish Alpha and I'm glad to see you had better luck on the water than I did. Man, I was sorry I didn't have any trout magnets with me yesterday. A friend and I went out to Bumpus Mills and aside from a few small bass, we couldn't catch a fish to save our lives. We threw everything but the kitchen sink too. That cold front and the sudden rise in water levels had the fish with a serious case of lockjaw. I kept thinking, "I bet if I had some TM's I could at least catch some nice crappie and maybe some bluegill."

I've already got my 2013 license, but it sounds like I would be better off going and paying the $11.00 for a senior license as it would save me the lake fees.
What'cha think? |

age 65
as I stated previously, I bought my 2013 full priced fishing/hunting combo license when my 2012 license expired. I turned 65 years old 18 days later ( March 18). My question is, read carefully, can I now go and buy a 2013 senior citizen fishing license for $11.00 so I won't have to pay the daily fees at TWRA lakes that charge?

Thanks Alpha. Have you turned 65 yet?

Now read carefully.:) I do not know if you can buy two license in a single year. I am betting that you can. Also, I do not think the license exempts us from the daily fee at all lakes. |
