Abu Garcia reel repair shop?

I fish an Abu Garcia 6501 C3 on my Musky stick. I have tried to keep it clean, oiled, and greased - but recently it seems to be a little slower on the cast and not quite as smooth an the retrieve. I think a good servicing is all it needs. I've never torn one apart, so I'm looking for a local tackle shop that does good repair work.

Any suggestions? Greater Nashville area.

Put a drop of oil on each end of the spool shaft and a drop on the level wind (where the line goes through the guide on the reel). You may just have dirt/dust on the level wind gear.

I'd be happy to look at your reel. The round 4600-6500 Abu's are what I cut my teeth on.

Adding a good quality reel oil to the line pawl, and spool bearings is a good way to keep your reels in good working order, and NOT dropping or dipping them in the water.

The problem with reel oils is that yes, they are OILS. Oils collect and attract dirt and dust. So dirt attracted to dust creates GUNK, then add more oil to that gunk, and you get more gunk. Well over the years this build up gets greater and greater, and after time the performance of your reel deteriorates. Eventually this gunk has to be removed. Most people don't know but a little reel oil 1 drop goes a long ways.

I have oils and will use them upon request, but I recommend a lubricant that leave no film.

What do you charge? I have a Diawa that screams like a banshee under load and it's only a little over a year old. I think it needs to be torn down and cleaned and properly lubed.

The basic clean includes complete teardown, every spring, washer, spacer everything and delicate parts like frame and plastics cleaned in a non-harmful solution in an ultrasonic cleaner, and all bearings and metal parts cleaned in a very strong degreaser in the ultrasonic cleaner.

i have sent 8-9 reels to Jeremy. He did a great job and a timely. Some of my reels are 20+ years old. So don't hesitate to get him a shout.

Not being mean or rude in anyway but I would clean it for free. break it all the way down and clean everything. I enjoy working on ambassadeurs many of mine are over 30 years old and I still outcast the majority of people I fish with when it comes to distance and I use larger line and smaller lures.

I just started taking apart my ambassadeurs this year. I followed a very informative step by step video on YouTube. You are right, it was quite easy and enjoyable. And my c3's were like new when finished. I tried the same on my calcutta 400b's. Not as easy and these will get sent in.

Jeremy I have a BPS baitcaster that makes funny noises I may want you to clean. It's only about 5 years old. What's the average turn around time? I'll pay for the super lube.

Once I get back on the bench turnaround depends what is currently on the bench. It will be Monday before I get back to the bench, and I have a few to get out, and depends what comes in over the weekend also. I'm a first come first serve, and I can have a reel done in 3hrs if I have nothing currently on the bench. Some customers say take your time, and some are in a hurry, I try to get them out as quickly as possible, but I'm very thorough, with ensuring all old oils and greases are completely removed, and all parts are thourally inspected, and reel is tested before it gets sent out.

I've been doing well, as my turnaround lately has been less than a week, or whenever the customer wants.

I'm feeling better, so next week I plan to really spend a lot of time getting reels out.
