Headed to Normandy today even though the water is way too high to properly fish the Trout Magnet. I wanted to get into some trout so I used the old technique that browntrout showed me and one they use on The White River a lot. I used a Trout Magnet Worm on a #4 long shank hook with an orange Berkley PowerBait Power Egg to keep it just off the bottom and a 1/3 ounce split shot 18 inches above the hook. Cast downstream and tried to keep the rig as close to center stream as possible. Caught 47 trout in two hours. Lot of fun with the Ul setup. They are beginning to decrease the flow a little there and I hope it gets down to under 300 CFS soon.

Excellent. Ethan and I couldn't land any down there 3 weeks ago.

Can't wait to be able to put the kayaks in. 300cfs would be nice.

Here is the hook rigged with the trout worm. Just put power egg on the hook and a split shot 18 inches above the hook. Depending on how much current will determine the size the weight will have to be. This is a common rig on the White River.

Jerry Mckinnis used that type rig for trout back in 60's but instead of power bait used corn or red wiggler under the worm.

Boy there's a name from the past. Sounds good to me. The way they do that on the White is cast it out and just drift downstream with it bumping the bottom.....it is deadly that way.

LOL....no Merv the only techniques I know are what someone taught me. I just got tired of sitting home and not fishing because the river wasn't conducive to how I wanted to fish it. So off I went with plan B and just sat on my bucket and had a lot of fun. Still can't believe I went to Cumberland City Steam Plant and didn't even catch a yellow belly....LOL.

Good work on all those nice trout, Alpha.

I wondered if you were fishing next to the dam or is the water too high for that? I don't think I could handle climbing down all that bric-a-brac (down a ways from the dam) to get to the water. Do you think fishing down near the bridge would be worth a shot?

Are you using 2# line with that rig? I used that same setup with great success in the urban ponds in Vegas except that I used Berkley 3" floating trout worms as the bait with a size 6 or 8 Aberdeen. Same sinker setup with 4 or 6# line.

Luck... Dennis

I was using 3# test Yamatoyo Razor fluorocarbon......a great FC line. There is great fishing right next to the parking lot where there is a long sidewalk and also at what looks like a boat ramp but is actually a place for wheel chairs to sit. It is all level ground and you don't have to walk 40 feet from the car. There is several hundred yards of good fishing right there at the parking lot. The water is a bit high to be fishing at the dam.

Isn't that basically the same thing as a Carolina rig? I'm thinking about heading up that way and get into some trout action...
