If anyone plans to do a lot of fishing this year and wants to join mine and xxthejuicexx's team for Kayak Wars, shoot me a PM. We need two more on our team.

Catch various species of fish, take pictures of length and post them to the site to win stuff.

Team Master Baiters are ready to rip some lips. I'm glad the regions have changed this year, we have South Carolina to compete with, but they should be no problem.

Do you think that practicing at an early age will make one become a better Master Baiter? Is this group mostly married or single?

Who said you can post in here? I think just your posting is going to jinx all of our fishing this year and we'll finish at the bottom of Kayak Wars.

Team Long Rods is ready but we still need one more person who will fish a lot this year! I like how this format only allows a certain number of fish per species each month so I can't just turn in 100 LM Bass and get points. This will encourage more outings for Crappie outside of Spring, trips to the Caney for trout, Tims Ford and Center Hill for Smallies, etc.

I forgot that I will be spending some time in Florida this summer so I will get to chase a few fish down there in the yak. I think it would be fun to catch some snakehead.

It starts Feb 1st and that's a Sunday. I'm thinking the following Monday might be a good day to use a vacay day from work and spend sunrise to sunset at the steam plant. I won't have a crowd to deal with, plenty of rockfish as well as a seemingly unlimited population of fish in other qualifying species. Too bad Tilapia won't count!

HA! I know where you're referring to and I can't seem to figure out that lake so it's all yours. I have access to a 4 acre pond in Franklin loaded with big bass and after wearing that place out in the Summer I've left it alone so those fish can relax but some Spring, it's gametime.

I'm willing to be there are some huge gills in there too...haven't tried yet.

So is there a way to boot someone off our team? I'm not going to mention the name, but a certain someone joined my team without asking, he just joined it because he saw me mention the team name on Facebook and that we needed some more anglers. Turns out last year he only submitted like 15 fish. I'm not trying to be mean but... we want people who are dedicated and going to spend a lot of time on the water and submit a heck of a lot more than 15 fish...

I bet GSP won't be as crowded. Cold, rain and the big game in which people are wondering if the Patriots can play with a properly inflated football.

And so much for taking a vacay day for Feb 2nd to go out there and have a much less crowded barrier to fish, work says heck no. I'm swamped with tasks right now.

I should be able to get the reels cleaned off the bench in a week or two, and then I'll be getting ready by pre-fishing for the KBF Open. I thought 2015 was going to be a relaxing year, guess I was wrong.

OK, probably more boring.

He has to write down his retorts, then have his wife proof read them for grammatical errors, lack of wit, and dumb remarks. If she thinks they are even somewhat humorous, she'll let him post them.

Notice how few remarks he makes???

I only hope when I get his age that I have more of my faculties about me......

Woody, I talked constantly when Merv and I fished. I thought he was unsociable because he seldom responded to my remarks. After about an hour he asked if I wanted a sandwich and I asked "what kind is it".
His response was "about 9:30".

Even at his tender age his hearing is not great.

Obviously, his wife didn't proofread and OK this post.
He probably snuck in and posted it when she went to bed.
I'll have her password protect her computer so this can't happen again.

One time I was fishing with Merv, this is a true story by the way, and he was telling me about the Spotted Bass having no size limit and to always check for the tooth patch on the tongue if you want to keep it. He got his words mixed up and said "That's the first thing I do when I catch a bass is stick my tongue in it's mouth." lol I looked at him and busted out laughing.

And then there's the time I was fishing with him below OHD and thought I had finally hooked at that time what would have been my first striper and after a several minute fight it was just a huge carp foul hooked under it's pectoral fin.

What good are fishing buddies if you don't have great stories, right??

Merv I think you need to get me, Sambolie, and Juice all in the boat with you one day. It will be a day of constant ball busting, laughter, and politically incorrect jokes. We can catch zero fish, and probably will since Sambolie will be there, and still have a blast.

Sounds like a fun trip to me! And if the fishing is REALLY bad, we can always throw SAMBOLIE overboard and troll for gar.

Sign me up! I'm good for Gas money, cold beer or whatever. Jimmy, with me and Sambolie in the boat not only will you not catch fish, you will probably fall over board. I don't think I have seen Jimmy catch a fish when I am with him....

For some reason I envision the S.S. Minnow here. Skipper, Professor, Thurston Howell III and Gilligan. Not sure any of you are quite easy enough on the eyes to be Ginger.

Ha you lie!! Seems like the fishing has sucked for all the outings we've made but I caught one and lost one at the unnamed lake with all the lilypads and milfoil and I also got one on a D-bomb at your mini Guntersville section of the Stones.

Last time I was being stubborn and refused to use jerkbaits even though they were working for you. I was (and still am) determined to catch my first fish on a jig and learn that technique.

Let's throw him over even if the fishing is good. It will be funny.

Oh yeah, in my old age my memory is slipping. I will agree with you that our outings have not been the best conditions. I am on board with the jigs, I purchased 6 more yesterday I am determined to catch fish on them. Missile baits has announced a new D-bomb, the D-Stroyer. I am more than a little excited.

Well if you did think any of us were easy on the eyes enough to be Ginger I'd still think you're a cool guy but wouldn't want to go fishing with you during any dark hours.

90% Of the time Texas rigged with a widegap hook, bead, and 1/2 or 3/8 Tungsten weight depending on depth and what I am doing. They work well on a shaky head but they are tough to actually get on the screw lock because of the toughness of the head and the oil on the D-bomb.

Extra noise, the tungsten clacking together with the glass bead makes a difference I think.

Length and weight please?

or are you folks just going by length?

Nice fattie for the first morning of KW I. (OK SAMBOLIE.....Kayak Wars I.....OK again.....Kayak Wars One!)

Jig and Fluke?

That seems to be the most productive bait for stripers.

Got a fella gonna help me guide for stripers on Priest, that's all him and his buddy use. The other day he called me with updates during the day, wound up with a total of 75-80 hybrids.

Sorry, no pictures but if you knew the guys, you'd have no doubts. Same guys that went to GSP on the coldest morning we've had this year. They caught 34 or 35 rockfish that day. I was there from 3PM-5:30PM and saw them catch 9. Biggest was 36 lbs.

It's length based for points. We scored some good points today to start out Kayak Wars for our team.

41" length, 28" girth. Calculator says 40.18 lbs. All I know is it ran like a pissed off freight train and was a nightmare to pull into the kayak after the fight left my forearms on fire.

Well, yeah! The spot I fish is the stones stays muddy so the yak stays covered in it. there is a low area that holds water and mud that you either walk through or jump over.

Are you guys competing in a middle TN chapter or S.E. Chapter for Kayak wars? I have a good friend that lives in Destin and fishes for Team Hobie. Just curious...

Andy

Kayak Wars is a world wide competition, to keep it fair it is done by regions and Tennessee is in Region 12 along with Kentucky, West Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey. They changed the regions this year for 2015, Tennessee used to be in the Southeast and we competed against Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. The Master Baiters kept up for a while against those guys, but by the middle of the summer they were just catching to many to catch up with.
