Bought myself a couple of gifts for Christmas. The reel is a Shimano TwinPower C2000HGS. The rod is a 7' 4" Major Craft SkyRoad that is rated for 2-6 pound test line and lure from .6-10 grams.....about 1/50-11/32. Have not used it on the water yet but it was bought for trout fishing....but will also use it for Gills.....and anything else that will hit a Trout or Crappie Magnet. It has a solid tip and micro guides and is designed to fish micro jigs. The reel will hold just over 100 yards of 2# test mono and has 6 pounds max drag. Already know I love the reel but will have to get the rod on the water. In the hand the rod feels great. It is designed for saltwater light rock fish in Japan. While it is definitely an UL rod it is unlike any UL rods we have available here. Have my eye on a MegaBass ShoreLuck SLL-68ULS rod next.

Merry Christmas to you Alpha. That's some sweet gear. With the exchange rate right now if I were going to buy any gear I would be going Japanese. I was actually looking at some Mega Bass Rod, and Reels, and Daiwa reels last week from Japan Tackle, and Japan Angler. Right now I've been shut down. We didn't do Christmas for each other, and trying to watch spending.

With fishing travels and tournaments it cost us more than $10,000 this year, and Sarah going part-time to be able to fish more cut her income in less than half, so we have to watch the budget now.

Yeah I hear you about the money. I spend a little less than half that amount on fishing a year. Most of mine is on gas....30,000 miles a year just for fishing....then 2-3 trout trips a year. Now is a good time to buy as you said. I have been wanting to do it for some time now and this was the time. I am planning a four day trip to the Little Red this spring with my son and might try to get one in the fall with browntrout. I am hoping to make this spring the "spring of all springs". So I am gearing up for it and by end of February I should have all the gear I had in mind to get taken care of. The reels will last a lifetime but I did need some new rods. I only have two left and one of those has about 2 inches broken from the tip so even though I like it the action is really odd now. But after February I will have to cut way back.
