Caney generation question

Why is it that they are always generating and sluicing from 9-11am? It has been that way for several weeks now.

I'm not complaining as it really keeps the crowds down. It just seems like a lot more folks could use the river if they pulsed through the night instead. Anyone have any insight on that?

Fishing was still good. Caught 25-30 in 3hrs in the pond. Nothing real big but still fun and all were released.

Nice looking fish. There are a lot of factors used to determine when and how much they generate. Lake level.....rain....or lack of rain....power demands......oxygen level......water temps.

The last 3-4 week-ends that has been the schedule 0901100 hours. generation.Then during the week they will run generation from 0900-1700 hours.I believe that the schedule is for folks to be able to get on river and fish.The additional 250 CFS when not generating has really helped the fishing.
It still looks like the lake is still a few feet above where they want to keep lake while repairing the dam.
My numbers have been awesome the last three Fridays.The later you fish,especially before dark will be very rewarding.

They do it partly for rec anglers but mainly for lower end temps. That 9am pulse will hit stonewall down between 2-3pm then stay up through heat of the day.

Excuse my lack of knowledge. When you talk about generation and the Caney, do you mean generation at the Center Hill Dam?

I haven't fished for trout since moving here from NV and hope to get over to the Caney soon.

How does the generation affect the fishing? Are you allowed to fish below the dam during generation or must you go farther down-river? I'm talking strictly about shore fishing.

Is the fishing better when there is no generation, or does it make any difference?

If you are bank fishing/wading no generation is your better bet. You can't wade the Caney during generation. You can fish it from the bank during generation but there are not a lot of public access points. Fishing during generation will require a yak/boat. The big browns like to play more when they are generating. This time of year there is plenty of opportunity for wade fishing. If you will search back thru the threads you swill see plenty of info on fishing the Caney.
