I've been researching for a couple of weeks now and cannot decide.
Do I want side imaging? I had a SI humminbird on bass boat and really liked the ability to cover water quickly.
The ones I've really been considering are Raymarine Dragonfly, Lowrance elite 5, humminbird 597, 598. Looked at Garmin also but no experience with them.
What's your opinion? Pros and cons. Thanks
Also like to add, I'd like to stay $700 or under for a unit.

I've had 2 Lowrance Mark 5 pro's and liked them a lot but they did not have gps so I sold 'em. The 5" screen will be small for SI or DI, have you considered the Lowrance 7, but don't think it has SI, but will do DI. GL in your search.

A 5" screen I would think would be perfect for a kayak. I've used 4", and I currently use a 7". The 7" is by far better as far as clarity, and detail.
It depends what features you want. I like GPS because I fish a lot at night and it can be very easy to get turned around, and color is a must for me.
Manufacturers keep putting better and better features in their newer units, features that are comparable to the larger units.
If I were in the market for a 5" I would go with the Elite 5 CHIRP, and HDS 5 GEN-2

Color is a must when looking for a new unit. I have a hard time seeing the SI on the 5" screens. I think MidTN hit the nail on the head.

What is the difference in the chirp sonar vs regular dsi? I am looking at an elite 4 series but this chirp on the elite 5 has sparked my interest. I dont have to have the best but if the price point is comparable then it may be worth it.

With CHIRP you can use multiple frequency settings at the same time. CHIRP has a higher frequency range for more detail. CHIRP has less surface clutter. With CHIRP I can get on top of fish and lower my bait down to them and watch them not bite my bait "very frustrating". CHIRP also includes Down Imaging which is a picture like image of what's below you.

I've not used the Dragon Fly personally, but have 2 friends that have them, and they seem to like them.
