Headed to Williamsport last week after work with a fishing buddy. We both had gopros going and I put together my first video. It is a lot of fun editing and putting together a video, you will probably see more in the future! We ended up with 9 fish, with 4 being between 18-19" and one 20.5" all on hollow body frogs. Good times. We were amongst several storms. We had to take almost a 2 hour break waiting for the lightning to quit. Total fishing time was about an hour and a half. Pretty good action!

hold Up! I made it to like the 48 second mark and notice you are throwing a frog on spinning tackle........ do we need to have a little talk about the frogs and the bass??? Ok, going back to finish the video.

and another pause, 1:58. Was that mono or fluoro? Someone should tell him about braid. I am willing to hold an intervention. By the way, nice fish at 2:54.

Haha, First of all, it is braid. Second of all, I do normally throw a frog on my baitcaster and MH rod. But with all the trees, I retied on my 7' med action spinning rod. I was able to skip that frog WAY up in those trees. Way further than I could with a baitcaster. It gave me 7 blow ups to my buddies 3 blow ups using a bait caster fishing the edges of the trees. There are rules, but in some circumstances, some need to be broken to give you a better chance. Adapt my friend...adapt. Haha

No leaders needed when frog fishing :) BRAID! And I understand adapting. I never understood how guys skip docks with bait casters until this year, I can skip a D bomb or frog on a bait caster now without the backlash, although it is easier with a spinning rod. I have a 7' heavy All Pro Cork handle spinning set up for when I need to drop the hammer with spinning tackle, my dad throws a frog on it when he fishes with me............ Don't Judge!

Haha, I can't skip with a baitcaster hardly at all, and if I miss aimed and hit a tree....HUGE KIDS MESS, as we call them. And yeah, frog, I always go straight braid. Don't tell me not to judge, you started all this judging in the first place! Haha

Hey, if I could get my dad to throw a bait caster I would, I am ashamed just being in the boat with him when he fishes a frog on a spinning rod :) you posted your video for the whole world to watch..... At least my dad fishes 65 pound braid.... no leader! It's always funny watching my dad go from frog fishing with braid to a worm with 12 or 10lb co polymer, I have to remind him that he needs to back the drag off and take it easy because He can't skip them across the water like he can with braid. Mike, If you ever want to come to Murfreesboro and fish my Mini G'ville hit me up. I would love for you to get some GoPro video of these fish.

Nice job on the video and good fish as well.

One of these days I am gonna have to thumb a ride out there. It's just a haul for me. Any time a trip takes longer than to the Caney....well you know where I choose 95% of the time. :)

I'm with Mike on it being easier to skip on spinning tackle. I've tried it on a baitcaster and I often wind up with a huge bird nest in the reel. Not sure why Craig was using a leader on the frogs though. Especially in that dirty of water there, straight braid will not be an issue.

Again, awesome video! Next video I make will have some more effort into making it cool rather than just a bunch of clips strung together. I'm using the freebie GoPro Studio software and it seems like I can do anything I need to do with it if I feel like putting in the time. I need to download some music. I have lots of fitting music on Spotify but since you don't actually "own" the tracks with that, they can't be used in a video.

What is magic about a bait caster?

What is magic about a bait caster?

When I think of spinning tackle I think of small cranks, shakey heads, grubs, weightless flukes. Lighter more finesse fishing styles.

When I think of baitcasters I think more of power fishing like cranks, plastic worms (Carolina Rigs, or Texas Rigs) frogs, jigs, etc. Rods that I throw Frogs with are rated usually 1/2oz to 1.5oz and are in the 7'4-7' 11" range and are very lightweight for the size of rod that they are, and have a fast tip. Where most of my spinning rods have slow tips and not made for the pressures a frog rod are used for.

I have a few spinning rods that are rated for heavier baits, but would never think of throwing a frog with them due to the overall weight of the rod, they would just wear me out.

I'm buy no means saying what Mike is doing is wrong, and I know he knows how to use a baitcaster, so I'm in no way questioning his intelligence, or ability to use a particular piece of equipment. Just stating that it is very unorthodox, or maybe I need to get out with others because I usually fish alone.

Very nice video. I don't give a rat's rear what rod/reel/line you use to catch them green fish. In the boat is in the boat. Well done.

Now if your talking 'bout big hard fighting fish (hybrid/rockfish) then that's a different story.

Those hard fighting rock fight like a rock, hence the name.
Get to the bottom and stay there like a rock.:)
