Took the kayak out to Williamsport and put in at Blue Cat. Fished for several hours but the fish were suspended out in deep water holding from 7 feet down to 23 feet. Caught a few Gills but nothing seemed to want to bite. Marked a ton of crappie....several schools of hybrid. The large mouth were doing pretty good for those fishing for them today. Loaded up and thought how nice it would be to get home under the AC. Well I turned down the road to Goldeneye and unloaded the kayak and tried it again...LOL. Caught a ton of 6 inch shell cracker bluegill cross, and a ton of small buck bass about 5-7 inches long. I was casting the edges of the Duckweed next to brush. On two occasions after hooking the crackers a largemouth decided he wanted it....LOL. That was quite a commotion. They were big fish. You could hear....and see, the bass blowing up back in that stuff. You could also hear that unmistakable slurp that big Gills make sucking down some insect. The best way to fish that stuff for shell crackers is not with 2# test and a Trout Magnet. I need a 6# test setup as a drop shot with a cricket or worm and just toss in the middle of that slop. The water is up and the water in Goldeneye looked real good.

Just curious, how deep does Goldeneye get? I didn't use my electronics last time because I knew I wouldn't use them. I stayed tossing into cover and duckweed. Did you mark any bigger fish out in the middle? I did catch my biggest fish a bit out from the bank on a crankbait making long, parallel casts. Not in the middle of the lake but not right up in the cover either.
I caught some of those dinky bass too out in the middle of the lake on a crankbait. I caught two like that, neither of them even hit 8 inches. I caught those two quickly when I tried cranking the middle of the lake so I went back to the banks since I'm looking for something a bit bigger haha.

The deepest part I came upon was I think 12 feet. I only saw little fish in the deeper water. I scanned it pretty good. But even the shell cracker were up next to cover, next to a bush or tree under the Duckweed. Really no good bottom in there for shell cracker to relate to so I guess they will just stay close to some shallow cover. It's good that there are plenty of smaller bass to keep the lake producing good fish down the road. You are right...if one is bass fishing really not much need of electronics in there.

Shocked one up in Goldeneye or Williamsport in general? I have had little luck with bass down there this year. Were they catching bass shallow or deep at Blue Cat?

It was Goldeneye...over 15 pounds. I know several folks who are killing them out there. A boat this morning had 21 before calling it a day on Blue Cat.

Wow, that large of a fish huh? I am sure that thing has seen every lure invented. Are you majority of the Bass small like you are talking about?

To get that big he must be a vegatarian, so lures and live bait don't affect it lol

That number came from the biologist on the electro shock boat....I see those guys quite often. There is a pic of it somewhere...it may be at the concession stand. Goldeneye has a good population of large bass. You won't see many boats in that lake. It really does not get the fishing pressure like Blue Cat and Shell Cracker.....I was the only person on Goldeneye today. It is a kayakers dream.....but it can be a nightmare for a bass boat...or even an aluminum john boat. When the water level drops the trailer can get into some of the sediment that is just like quicksand. This morning on Blue Cat a buddy of mine was talking about him and our dentist putting his small aluminum boat in there last year.....he almost couldn't get it out. But it does hold some nice fish.

If it's a vegetarian bass and weighs 15 pounds it must be about 4 feet long!

Wow that's a monster. I honestly don't even know how I would react if I landed a bass that big ever in my lifetime.
