Anyone fishing from canoe?

I have seen several mention kayaking, but curious if anyone is fishing from canoe? Pro/Cons? Thanks

I am running a mohawk solo 13. It is lighter than most kayaks @ 41 lbs vs 60+. I also duck hunt out of it on occasion, and I wanted a boat I could carry decoys, etc in and lay down in to hunt. It is a royalex boat, so I can repair it if need be with fiberglass cloth and epoxy. Royalex has been the standard for whitewater canoes for 40ish years, but sadly the only plant that makes royalex sheets recently closed. My experience has been that the canoe is faster than the coosa, but that is the only one I have run side by side. I can stash 2 rods on each side of the seat but usually only take 2. I did add a cushion seat with a backrest and can fish all day out of it. Canoes have a reputation for being tippy, but that has not been my experience with a solo boat. I do use a double ended kayak paddle. I have rigged mine with an anchor trolley, so it has most of the features of a fishing kayak without the extra weight of the decks on top. Many of the fishing yaks tout being able to stand to fish. Would I do it in my canoe- no. If you are planning to river fish where you will be in and out of the boat often wading shoals and walking the boat over riffles, get a canoe or sit on top kayak. I can easily get in and out of either in thigh-deep water. Try that in a sit in kayak, and please post the video for our enjoyment!

I will be in my brother in laws tomorrow on the Obey River "lord willing". I sold it to him a few years back but since I married his sister she gets to borrow it whenever she wants. :)

Personally I would rather fish from my 15' Jon or Kayak. But, it depends on the setting and what your target species/body of water is...

Use to fish out of a canoe a lot. My kayaks are a better fit for most fishing situations. However a canoe is still great boat to get out and fish from, especially for multday river floats.

I have 14ft Rouge River Canoe that I bought before my kayaks. I can stand up in it and there is plenty of room, it is 42" wide! The wife and I still go out in it sometimes, but I now fish mostly from my Commander120 kayak!
By myself in the canoe it is too much to handle but with another person or some extra weight in the front it is not bad. The canoe weighs 80lbs, the kayak weighs 75lbs. I carry either one on top of my chevy caviler. My brother and I went to lake Guntersville in AL with the canoe and caught a lot of bass out of Crow creek. For the price and the storage and the lack of a truck the canoe for two or the kayak for solo cant be beat!!

I used to have a coleman scanoe and put glassed wood floors in it. That made it heavier but easier to stand. I enjoyed fishing from it but solo was a pain do to weight.

My kayak now gets more time than either my bass boat or river boat. So much easier and cheaper.
