Tough but enjoyable day at Laurel Hill today. Hard to find fish but at the end of the day I had 21. A shell cracker or two here...a Gill or two there. Going from bed to bed pulling a few fish from where I could find them. Not sure how these pics show up on folks PC so I mark where the fish are. The one with the arrows had 4 fish.....I did catch 4 fish off that bed. Included pic of what is a larger fish...maybe bass....with two much smaller fish along with it. You not only see the shadow of the large fish but the shadow of the smaller fish as well. Life is good!

Nice size fish! What time of year will you stop looking for the beds?

Well I am not really looking for beds right now but that is the place I am finding a few Gills at Laurel Hill. Some years the Gills down at Laurel Hill will move shallow and stay shallow up until fall. But so far this year they have not. The lake is close to 60 feet deep with a feature less bottom. As of yet I have not found where they go there when they come off beds and go deep. Haven't made a trip to Center Hill....Pickwick.....with the kayak lately because of the rash of pop up storms we have been having lately. Just too far to drive and have to get off the water for lightning and have a short trip. Should have gone today but had some service done on my vehicle today so got a late start and stayed close to home. But one will be able to find some Gills on beds up through August. I will hit the beds at Center Hill again in October to see if the info I have read in several articles is true....that when the water cools off in fall shell crackers will spawn again. I have no clue if that is true or not. But right now I am just looking for fish. As long as we are in this weather pattern I will probably stay close to home fishing out of kayak and only put the kayak in where I can get back to launch point pretty quick.....my Big Game Prowler II is a slow boat and I don't like lighting.....LOL.

nice pics, the last fish pic is a big one. Be careful out there with these storms popping up.
