I was fishing for crappie with my wife Saturday morning. She had just put one in the boat when I got another. I had it on the line for maybe 5 seconds, and then the drag started peeling off my ultralight reel with 4 pound test. I fought it for 5 minutes or so. Finally got it to the boat – 13.5 pound flathead. The crappie’s tail was still sticking out of its mouth. I was hoping to be able to pull the crappie out and keep it, but by the time all the commotion was settled (having to pull the bigger net from one of our compartments), the crappie was too deep inside the catfish! You can see the tail in the picture of the catfish's mouth. I’ll tell that story for a few years to come. We ended up with 3 keeper crappie, several largemouth and white bass, and 1 other smaller cat.

Wow that's awesome! One time in the Florida Bay I hooked into a smaller sailcat and about halfway back to the boat the line turned around and drag was peeling. It stopped and I was reeeling in dead weight only to see that a shark had grabbed it and bitten half of it off!

It's always fun when that happens! I had about a 15 lb striper steal a yellow stripe off my line below JPP dam once.

That's pretty cool, I never had anything like that happen. I did catch a good flathead last week on a Red Eye Shad on Priest.

Pretty neat. Those flatheads sure fight.
