Has anyone ever tracked how long it takes for flow from Old Hickory Dam to reach, say, Old Hickory Blvd, the mouth of the Stones, Lock 2, Mill Creek, etc.?

I'm curious as well about flow from 0-1 generator and 1-2 generators.

Surely when you're as far as downtown the effect will have blended quite a bit to be not so dramatic.

Also, the USGS gauge in Nashville has consistently been showing a couple hours a day reading a negative flow. The remainder of the readings look to mimic what the TVA says about the dam's observed data but can anyone elaborate?

Center Hill on one generator moves about 3 miles per hour. Not sure if the same holds true for OH.

Are you checking this site as well or just the USGS site?

Second thought, it would be really hard to figure the water speed exactly due to all the creeks feeding and how hard Cheatham is pulling. The only way for sure to know water speed (current wise) is to have Dave "fishfindergeneral" with you and him bring his fish hawk trolling system.

I use the NOAA site. They have 5 gauges between OHD and Downtown. You can see on them how little effect the current generation at the dam has on the water level downtown. Each green dot on the map is a gauge if you click it a graph comes up.

Thought a lot on that. 1.8 -2.2 mph is the most accurate by trial and error.faster on the caney. Slower on the cumb. It really slows down from Rome to hunters point. There are so many variables.

Thanks guys! Yeah, I have Caney about down to a science. It's much more volatile! I have no electronics but according to the gauge readings there the water from Happy to Betty's is about 7 mph but yes Travis over any long stretch it averages at or just under 3 mph.

I'm finding the fish on the Cumberland to be programmed. The closer to Old Hickory the more the new water seems to help. I can always catch a few little spotted bass downtown but don't like fishing without current/relying on my trolling motor.

I'm trying to find that sweet spot - but - it's fishing!! Last summer I crushed the smallmouth everywhere from the mouth of the stones down to about Opryland but that stretch has absolutely sucked for me so far this year!! I've done better with a few small fish by the dam and a few small fish downtown. I can't figure it out!!
