This is a 2-part report from this weekend and last.
My crappies have finally showed up at their summer homes, so i decided to introduce myself on saturday! LOL. Tried for top water bass at first light with no takers. On the bright side, for any lure hunters, if you cruise the bank across from Bryant Grove ramp, look about 15ft up in the trees for my spook jr and a silver/black buzzbait. LOL...as i type this, i still have no idea how i got them that far up in the trees! But i digress! so instead of throwing more money away on errant casts, i headed from the crappie promise land.
Found the fish in 12-14ft of water. I used my home made Wally Marshall knock off deep water crappie rig. It worked pretty good. Had 3 doubles on thru the day, but one of them always broke off. The big solo fish i got, i found swimming out in the 14ft of water, but the numbers i got of the smaller fish were around brush. got quite a few black nose crappie's too, but most were measuring about 9-15/16"! LOL. By smaller, i mean the 9-11" range. The largest 3 were just barely over the 14" mark, one of the big black crappies was a just super thick across his back, big big healthy fish. Ended up with 26 before better judgment told me to leave the water before all hell broke lose saturday night. The first drops hit the windshield as i put the truck in drive to leave the ramp. And it was NASTY!!!!! i know there was a small night tourney out of couchville about 6-ish, i hope them guys all made it back safe. trees snapped across the road, debris everywhere and absolute downpour rain.
The second part of my report is from last weekend out in Crossville, Fairfield Glade to be exact. Although they arent "private" lakes, you do have to jump thru some hoops to get the required boat stickers to fish the lakes. No wake lakes, no jet skis, skiers, ect, just mom and pops taking booze cruises on pontoons at sundown. anyway, my cousin from Oklahoma was in for the week and he was on his High School Fishing team so ofcourse we hit the lakes. It was incredible! not only did we get numbers, we got BIG fish.
of the 8 or so "lakes" in that area, a few of them are clear and very deep and almost of them are feature-less, all make for very very difficult daytime summer fishing, so we did most of ours at night.
I attached the crappie pics as well as a few of the bass pics from last weekend. for their small size, i can promise, these lakes could bring some very good anglers to thier knees in a humbling cry! But they are great IF you can figure them out.
Pics wont attach, i will try to get them on here....
